Resident Evil: Resistance is the multiplayer game attached to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and unfortunately it's just that - a mere attachment.

It's half-baked, and not very good at all. I also strangely like it, or at least I've been playing it a lot. I wonder what it's like to play as a Mastermind though. Matchmaking won't let me try.

So it’s just a worse mercenaries mode? Think I’ll pass... The original re3 is what introduced mercenaries, so I’m a bit disappointed that it’s not in the remake.

Maybe games like this just ought to say, "Okay- five players in the room- roll of the dice, here's the role you're going to play." Or at least start that way. Maybe make players play a certain number of games that way before unlocking a mode where roles are chosen, or maybe keep track of how many complete games (no ragequitting!) the players have played as protagonists and factor that in in choosing who gets to be the antagonist. Because as Jim said, it's not surprising that people want to play the Mastermind. It's like getting to play the "hero' characters in Star Wars: Battlefront, only without having to do anything to earn the power trip.

I was genuinely confused for the first minute of the video or so, going "are these characters on screen not playing at the same time?"

Waited OVER an hour and still no Mastermind game. It's a fun little diversion, but it also feels like Capcom shoved it out into the world to die, so trying to make as much money as fast as possible before the community dies entirely isn't surprising. Sadly. There's a ton of potential in it too, I'm actually having a lot of fun as a Survivor. Though the lack of dedicated servers is a bit off-putting as well. Then again Dead By Daylight JUST turned those on, so it's probably trickier than it seems... The whole thing just seems supremely half-baked, but it's a half-baked GOOD IDEA.
