Rage 2 is pretty damn good... when it allows itself to be. When it's not being good, it's being frequently irritating and boring thanks to broken pacing and open world busywork.

The frustration is that its high points are really cool, but they feel few and far between due to the stuttered pacing. A fundamentally good game actively diminished by poor design decisions.

Oh yeah! Rage 2! The game with the song! Right?

Well that's obnoxious isn't it? Games that have good parts surrounded by annoyance can be so obnoxious because it's like a bad relationship: "Yeah he picks his nose constantly but he really knows how to cook." It's kind of like you said towards the end that some will be okay with putting up with the annoyances for the good gunplay. No game is perfect but the annoyances should be random, sparse, and rare. Not, what appears to be for Rage 2, like 70% of the game.

Seems like I'll enjoy playing it =)

Use the pistol to break crates, the melee hit box with the pistol extents further... and feels like it's deliberate.

I just sort of gave up on open world games for now. They all seem to devolve into slogs, collectathons, grind, and basically pixel hunting.
