The First Descendant is the last thing I want to play right now, nauseated as I am by how much of a swindle it is. Designed entirely to frustrate and trick money out of players, it gives nothing in return but the same “live service” mundanity that’s soaked the market in an ocean of filth. CLICK HERE for the full review!

So-called 'live service' games only make sense, to me, for one genre: MMOs. Because they are providing, quite literally, a service (game) which is live. Even in that case the monetization can be ludicrously excessive, especially in current year. This game is just... it's a bit of nothing, isn't it? Reminds me of the phrase 「山[場]なし、落ちなし、意味なし」 -- no climax, no point, no meaning (but without the fun genre connotations such a phrase is known for.)

who is playing these games? Like...somebody must be for them to keep making them, but I've never known anybody who played any of them beyond that handful of big established ones like warframe, fortnite, etc.

No one. That's why they die after a year. But executives see how much money the popular ones made and are chasing it. Not realizing that no one is going to leave the live service they are playing for a new one. I say this as a Warframe player.
