I've been wanting to speed up my renders and start creating more animated content. It is a little tricky to do large amounts of renders with cycles since it takes sooo long for the heavy volumes and all the particles for grass/trees/etc. As a result, I usually only use cycles for when I'm rendering out stills for Instagram. I can crank my samples up and get a very clean render in about 1-2 hours per frame (which is a lot of time for my slow machine...). Now that I'm starting to do more animations, I wanted to shift back to EEVEE. Now, I love EEVEE for more motion graphics type work (see a recent video I made for NASA here: https://www.jamestralie.com/vesta); however, I feel like it is really challenging to nail realistic lighting in EEVEE. Cycles just looks better for photorealism. HOWEVER - I have been experimenting a LOT more with EEVEE, and I have been really really happy with the results I'm getting (see above). This still rendered in 1 minute and 30 seconds (it would've taken about 3 hours in Cycles with my setup :O ). With a little bit of color correction in Photoshop, I got the result you see - not bad! I'm going to keep playing a bit more and will look to make a tutorial soon to share how I'm doing this :) stay tuned!
