As a history nerd, I’m so looking forward to this! I’m that one nerd who bought the Frank Delaney docu-series The Celts and watched it a million times. So looking forward to more of these!

😍😍😍 Can't wait to see&listen!! I haven't really talked about this out loud before, but my future business will be around celtic&scandinavian cultures, both of my roots ♥♥♥ So I'm very very excited to hear about the vikings in Ireland! 😍😍

You talking about ancient history? Sign me in! I could listen to you reciting the dictionary, if you want.

Your history is my family history so I love it . On my last visit I every second. A good friend told me even if it's a soft day, cold, windy when you step on Irish ground you will know it is an ancient, sacred land and I felt like I went back for my family that to leave, THANKS Sweet "G",

Oh wow, I love this! 😲 ☘💚

Awe, so very nice. It's really so beautiful and noble how proud you both are of your heritage. We should all be proud of who we are. Very nice production to you both. 💚

Wonderful collaboration! Love to see more!

Very interesting documentary and your narration is fun and engaging. I love that shot of the path leading to the monastery. I'm used to every path being tiled so a path of only grass is really special for me. The Adam and Eve carvings are beautiful too. Can't wait to see this site for real some day 😍

Ahh...two things I like. Documentaries and your voice. 😜 Still made me sleepy and I learned something new. 🥂💃🏻😴

Sorry about my Viking ancestors...😬🤣

Yay! I love the collaboration here. At first I was expecting it to be shot/narrated like a travel show or historical documentary, but of course it’s neither of those things. It’s narrated in Gael’s signature style and humor. (Like with the vikings hopping onto each other’s shoulders so they can come in and do their pillaging 🤣🤣) I also love that we got to look inside the monastery - there’s so much story, and a lot that we can fill in with our imagination with just a few details. Maybe making up characters, doing some voices, and telling stories from their perspective would be fun - as you would in a ramble? Like, the vikings can sound dopey because they’re little jerks. 😂 Anyway, I just love seeing this part of Ireland and getting to explore it with you! I can’t wait to see more!! 🥰

Awesome narration Gaelforce

When you first approached the round tower, I was reminded of Kells. The more you explained, the more familiar it became until my mental light bulb came on! “This is the Kells Monetary!!” As an artist, I work primarily in meticulous detailing when I draw, even without meaning to. The Books of Kells would be a MAJOR milestone in my artistic career to see with my own eyes! Please tell me you’ve seen the Secret of Kells movie! The artwork is beautifully done!

As a Norwegian, one thing about Ireland amuses me: Dublin was originally a Viking camp. You're welcome.

This was interesting to watch, but I couldn’t quite tell what this video was aiming to be. At some points it seemed like it was trying to be a historical documentary, at other points it sounded like a virtual tour guide for different Irish landmarks/structures, and at times it seemed more of a handy vehicle for showcasing RBP’s photography and videography skills. There’s nothing wrong with any of those options, but trying to merge them all together made the video feel disjointed. I’m no script writer, photographer, or filmmaker, but as a viewer, I think I would’ve preferred for the creators to commit to one option and follow it through as opposed to trying to dabble in a bit of everything. If the intent was to try to be more of a historical documentary, I think Gael’s voice clashed with the underlying tone of the video in certain sections. It felt like the conflict between the monks and the vikings was a major talking point of the video, especially where the background music had that epic, <i>going-into-battle</i> air to it. A bit of dialogue that I really liked was at around 4:10: <i>"Can you imagine the panic when those boats were docking? It must’ve been absolutely terrifying, huh?"</i> Dialogue like that evokes emotion in the viewer - paired with background music, it could almost transport the viewer back in time, visualizing the monks trying to prepare for the incoming vikings. But then a few moments later, after the video transitions to the picture of Ardmore Beach, you hear Gael’s quip about the vikings sailing in for their booty 😯 Not gonna lie, I chuckled at that bit 😛 - but it almost felt a bit like whiplash given the more serious tone of the video just 20 seconds earlier. I know that Gael cracks jokes a few times over the course of the video, which fits well with his Gaelforce persona (and what he’s presumably like at least some of the time IRL). And lighthearted narration would probably pair well in a touristy sort of video; there were points where it felt like Gael could’ve doubled as a tour guide, leading a group of travellers around different landmarks and providing them with tidbits of info and historical background. But I don’t think that kind of narration would pair well with a more formal documentary-style video, unless the focus of the documentary was something neutral or positive (e.g., exploring the beauty of some of Ireland’s natural landscapes). I suppose if there’s anything I would recommend as a viewer, it would be for the creators to decide right off the bat what kind of video they want to make. That’ll likely be dependent on several factors, like time, available resources, creative vision/goals, etc. But once that decision is sorted out, I think it would be easier for Gael to tailor his narration to suit the purpose of the video, and to make sure that the various elements of the video blend well together (e.g., seeing beautiful, peaceful Ardmore beach with battle music playing in the background and booty jokes in the foreground felt a bit confusing 🤔).

I think I remember that I read somewhere that the different Scandinavians left their mark on different places: The Danish went to England (so it's usually the Danes one hears about in viking history and in pop culture I think), the Norwegians went to Scotland and Ireland (hey, there), and the Swedes went to Eastern Europe. And of course they brought back slaves, but what's interesting is that those Irish and Scottish slaves (talking from a Norwegian POV here) were also brought to Iceland when the settlers went there. So there's probably quite a bit of Icelanders there with Irish and Scottish blood in their veins ;) No hard feelings though? 🙏

👆 I totally agree with the foreboding music part! I love Gael’s energy when he tells stories, and I think it would be cool to expand that vibe…it brings places back to life. Seems like narration was added after the video was done. Maybe one more pass at editing after the narration was added could’ve been helpful. Or, editing the video into a more coherent story could be done before the narration gets layered on. Or, as you say Doc - plan things out before starting the whole process so both are on the same page.

Very cool!!!!! I know I'm a couple days late but I love learning any history, all cultures actually. I have to admit I laughed at the leaf bit it caught me off guard cause I didn't see it at first lol. Before I found my passion in nursing by a very sly smooth talking doctor in my college tours my favorite subject in middle/high school was "world history", well it said "world history" but it was mainly American (white-washed) history lol. I actually wanted to work in some sort of history teaching WOW...LOL......which seems many moons ago lol wish those brainy scientist would hurry up and build that time machine....Man, wonder which year I would travel to first????? Both of my Great-Grandfathers fought in WW2 one in Navy and other Marines so I got told these amazing yet horrific stories so maybe I would start there to see each of my great-grandfathers in action. But then again the Renaissance times always caught my attention. Man or being there when Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa???? Was that a smirk? A half smile? No smile? Was she just a dream of his? If she was real did she give him head after???? These are the important questions no one asks lol.....Ok that last sentence may have went to far. But I personally would like more of these. And your Irish you can teach me all the stuff my Irish step grandfather didn't teach me. He passed away too soon he was an amazing human no accent he was American Irish and a cop lol his nick name was the "Irish Bulldog" Ummmm don't know how he got that name cause as far as I know there are only 2 bulldogs American and English. And as a great man he was he was not a one woman type of man lol but he was an amazing jokester and the life of the party. He treated me as his own granddaughter and that's what mattered. Anyway this became dark fast, just wanted to say thanks for the mini lesson!!!! As always G you entertain me and that's what matters!!!! Thanks for the smiles on this insomnia night. Gotta get up in 2 hours for work so I'm hoping to fall asleep to your smoothing sleep audio. Not sure of the time difference I'm in Texas(Found Seanie's weed he was looking for a while back...LOL J/K still illegal in Texas) so I'm sure it's day for you about now, so wishing you an amazing day G!!!!!!! And Thank you for all you do for your loyal (voters? if your our Governor) Patreon's much love.......Jessica AKA CoCo
