Marge Simpson Origins

Part prequel, part season 2.5, Queen Charlotte tells the story of... well, Queen Charlotte! She's not exactly my favorite character from Bridgerton... but perhaps this will make me appreciate her more when season 3 comes around?

So race WAS brought up but not more than two or three times. I vaguely remembered Lady Danbury reminding the Duke that it wasn't that long ago that people of color and white people were separated. And how the queen integrated them. So I believe this is showing that racism was much worse than it is in "current" day. I hope I explained this correctly! Also when I watched this the day it came out, I yelled "SHONDA!" in your honor.

Aha! So it all checks out then… genuinely so funny that it’s acting like a coupla decades made a difference in this time period vs today haha

definitely an alternate history, but I think they're explaining how the poc got "integrated" to their society by this royal marriage lmao. Also the dead grand daughter is new, the king scene you were referring to in season 1 was about one of their own kids being dead, if I'm not mistaken. In total they had 15 kids but when Charlotte meets with them at the end of the episode here there is only 13 left so present day here is still after season 2

Also the reason the message flashed at the beginning of the first episode about it being “fiction inspired by fact” it’s cause it’s loosely based on the marriage between Queen Charlotte and King George III (the king from Hamilton THAT King lol) there were rumors about her racial identity and Shonda used those to spin her character but a lot of other details are based on reality like how she discovered Mozart when he was 8 years old.

Yeah it’s pretty silly when you realize that a lot of those people would still be alive in “current” bridgerton lol. But yeah the show is also supposed to show how their love ended racism.

Watched the season 1 video thinking I'd need a refresher going back in, and it's a prequel 💀

i was also confused about the timeline/who died but i think (??) it's all happening after the events of season 2 and yes, they mentioned the king & queen having a daughter that died but the woman that died this ep is her granddaughter (daughter of her eldest son - enter sobbing man; sorrows, prayers) during childbirth. long story short the loss of the granddaughter and great-grandchild sparked the whole push for an heir.

Witchy Reads

Princess Amelia is who was referenced in season 1 as having passed away. She was the youngest of Queen Charlotte and King George's children. It is said that her death caused a major mental health episode for George. It is their granddaughter, daughter of their eldest son (the guy who kept sobbing), who passed away in this first episode. "Present day," all takes place after season 2, so truly season 2.5.
