In this video, I'm demonstrating how to use the open source website Basic Pitch to convert audio to MIDI. It is easy to use, does  not require a login or payment, and does not upload or store audio.

I know some of you recommended Samplab, but it´s very hefty priced at 9€ a month  and it needs to upload audio to the cloud.

Could indeed be pretty useful! In ethnomusicology, we have a whole thing about “transcription & analysis” (I took that as a course during my PhD). Much of it has to do with ways to represent things which wouldn’t fit in a MIDI file. Still, there's a whole lot to be said about having a MIDI transcription to guide you as you analyze something. And analyzing something is great when you’re practicing improvisation or you want to cover a track. Wonder if someone can embed that Python code into a plugin, somehow. That workflow could be better than Melodyne, which does a whole lot more (including with polyphonic tracks). I might try Samplab, again. Yes, it’s a steep price. And, sure, the track separation can work with free tools (Deezer has one of those). The benefit, though, would be if you can get “MIDI stems” from a single soundfile.

already asked on the discord if someone can include this into a plug. would be also nice to have this integrated in bitwig somehow.
