I just reviewed the new plugin called Bloom by Oeksound, alongside their other spectral-based plugins, Soothe and Spiff. Here's a concise overview:

  • Bloom is advertised as a tone shaper but functions similarly to an EQ with four adjustable frequency bands, each with its gain control. It features a global amount knob to scale adjustments across all bands, spectral compression through a "squash" setting, and customizable attack and release times for dynamic response.
  • Stereo Mode adjustments allow for separate control over mid and side channel volumes, enhancing spatial manipulation. The plugin quality can be adjusted based on CPU capacity, and while it offers a range of presets, its interface is not resizable, and the pink color scheme is fixed.
  • Drawbacks include its high price point ($200), which is considered excessive for its functionality, and the requirement for iLok even for trial versions, detracting from its accessibility.
  • Functionality is centered on subtle tonal adjustments rather than significant EQ changes, making it suitable for adding warmth, clarity, and removing harshness without introducing phase issues. Its operation is content-aware, potentially utilizing AI to adjust to different instrumental characteristics, though this aspect remains unclear.
  • Usage Experience shows it excels in subtle vibe changes rather than drastic EQ shifts, operating more as a tone shaper. However, the price and iLok requirement are significant downsides.

Overall, Bloom by Oeksound is a sophisticated, spectral-based tool for nuanced audio shaping, albeit with considerations regarding cost and software requirements.

This EQ plugin is pink

Yeah, just did a quick test of the Bloom plugin by Oeksound. It was introduced as a tone shaper, but after giving it a whirl, I'd say it's more like a spectral EQ with some optional compression thrown in. Pretty pricey, though, and the whole iLok thing really puts me off liking it. https://bit.ly/3ICuEvg -- 💕 Support me on Patreon: https://bit.ly/3PgbxZz 💰 or donate via Paypal: https://bit.ly/3cae9t8 🎧 Buy my Music: https://polarity.bandcamp.com/ 💾 Download my Tools / Github / Resources: https://polarity-dnb.de/blog/polarity-music-tools-samples-and-bitwig-presets-update-2019.html 💻 Check out my gear on Kit: https://kit.co/polarity/polarity-music-kit -- DEALZ: 🛒 Buy Bitwig Studio & Support me https://bit.ly/3yQEyDU 🛒 Upgrade Bitwig Studio & Support me https://bit.ly/3OimEjc 🛒 VST/AU Plugin Deals https://bit.ly/3zcvo66 -- SOCIAL MEDIA Discord: https://discord.gg/eWwFBww Blog: https://polarity-dnb.de/blog/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/polarity Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/polarity-berlin/ Business Inquiries: robert@polarity-dnb.de Paypal Donations: donate@polarity-dnb.de

Sooo… Why were you interested in this one? Sounds like there are many toneshapers and EQ around. During Andrew Huang's masterclass, yesterday, someone mentioned useful AI in an oeksound plugin. Was probably soothe2. In such a case, the adaptive part might be useful. Then again, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So, it's probably best to try with our own material. As for PACE's iLok, it's now obvious that it's an issue in our scene. In fact, it can break validation on the latest update to macOS. Those DRM approaches make life harder for people need to use plugins legitimately and they probably don't prevent piracy.

I think his BS -meter went off so he decided to investigate. That's my personal theory
