Chapter two of East Bound is with the copy editor, and hopefully will be posted today. I need to go back over it. I wanted it up sooner, but of course the minute I set a deadline, I got sick (or it's really bad allergies, I can't decide which), a bunch of other stuff popped up, and my cat and dog that usually get along great seem to have had some sort of throw down while I was at work last week, and now I have to take the cat into the vet.

Tempest (aka Bubba/Bubbita, aka Kitty 'Pest, aka Pigpen, aka Stalin, aka John Leguizamo...people like to give her nicknames) is a hurricane Katrina rescue and when we got her she was six months old, male and neutered. Her owner had evacuated and left her and didn't want her back. My aunt had been calling her Bubba (the cat was in the house they rented). Turns out Bubba was a girl and totally NOT spayed at all when we adopted her. My roommates, husband, young son and my mother were all living in one house at the time--a temporary place we'd managed to rent as we rebuilt my mom's house. We'd just lost my dog, Chaos, to cancer on top of losing our homes to the hurricane, and right after losing my grandfather a few months prior to that. It had been a rough year, and Kitty Pest was a bright spot for all of us. She's the most mellow cat I've ever met, and drools on your when you pet her. She likes to follow you into the bathroom at three in the morning and scratch your legs begging for love while you pee. It's awkward. If any of you remember the scene in Necromancing the Stone where everyone argues over what to name Taco? That was inspired by us arguing over Pest's name.

After her fight, we couldn't find any injuries, besides a lost tooth. (Ouch.) She seemed stunned. I thought she was sore for the first day, and we kept an eye on her, making sure she was still drinking and going to the bathroom. I gave her chicken broth as well, because of her tooth. But she still seems to be having problems, so today we go to the vet. It's going to be a BILL, I already know it. X-rays at least. Possibly antibiotics. I 100% don't mind taking care of my animals, but the money...

Anyone out there that has ever been broke, you know how when you finally get money in your savings account, and you look at that money with dread? Because you just know something is going to happen to take that away? Well, last week we finally got a positive balance in our savings account and...yup. Our wee cushion is going right out the door.

*sighs*

Fingers crossed.
