What's with the gender symbols on the protagonist avatar on the breeding menu? After breeding with the monster, the protagonist cannot breed anymore.

Hey, I have 20 monsters and 5 pastures built (so I've expanded and installed) but the incubator still tells me there's no room in the barn. Two of my pastures are empty! Is this an error? On one of my other logs I have 50 monsters in 5 pastures, so it's not like they can't get 100% full.
