Hey again. So, had a few failed attempts at recording some videos and feeling pretty tired.

What I'd like to do starting now is move through the rough drafts and get them ready for public consumption, including the mold making video. This does take some time and effort so whatever else I'd like to do that's traditional may need to take a back seat for a bit.

And while I'm doing this we really need to discuss Halloween and see what is reasonable to complete.

I'd like to concentrate on the carnival idea again but there are a few things to consider.

First, it's been a long time since I've looked at the original files for the 3d environments. I wanted to perhaps switch over to Maya and am in the process of seeing if this is possible. I have to admit I have forgotten a LOT of stuff about these programs.

Also, these programs require an annual fee. I can get the "indie" license for 3ds max or Maya which is pretty affordable but will need to be charged to my credit card.

What I've noticed though with the planet animation is that the render times don't seem that great with the new computer. I'm not sure why that is.

I may also have in the past used a cracked copy of the vray when working on the carnival 3d scene. I prefer not to use cracks as I can write them off as a business expense anyway, but vray requires it's own annual subscription. I don't know what renderer I'd use in Maya.

We need to sort of sit down and make a plan for what exactly needs to get down and how to go about it and how I'm going to continue to get ad revenue from new youtube content (it basically goes down to zero when I'm not actively posting) while also maintaining momentum with the Carnival project. I don't know why but I am extremely fatigued and I am worried about this as a factor.

So from now I am going to be posting a lot here about that particular project and what exactly I'm doing each day. This I do perceive and experience as work so I do feel the need to quantify this on the patreon.

I especially need to manage my expectations because I can get carried away with potential outcomes that aren't achievable for me based on time, money and (most of all) skill level.

I would love it if we could work together to achieve this project by Halloween.

edit: just to be clear, the financial aspect is not something we need to discuss, it's just something I feel I need to communicate as a limiting factor. For example, instead of making the costume as I hoped for originally, a 3d representation may be an option, although it may take more time. I also can get carried away with materials so it's more so something that I need help controlling.

I find it incredibly difficult to give you any sort of limiting feedback! While I appreciate you not wanting to give your patrons a financial burden, I find myself curious about how much your vision requires and how we can help make that happen.

If you upgraded to a newer version of your 3D package on the new PC it may have changed default renderers to a better/slower one? Just something I'd noticed moving from Max 2013 to 2020. Also, I feel like you probably know this already, but are all the cores at 100% and boosted to 4.9Ghz during the render? You could also make sure XMP is enabled, but realistically I'm assuming you had a quad core before it should be significantly faster unless you're using a GPU renderer even without any kind of tweaking.

I would love to get a comprehensive break down and discuss the best solution. I think even for me it's a good idea to find ways to keep costs low while also balancing that with ways that time could be used more efficiently. For example, buying 3d assets would have greatly reduced the time burden but it's too late for that with this particular project.

The most resent project was last opened in 2012 and I kept the same settings as the original project so you're probably right. Once I find the most recent project file for the carnival scene I'll see what's changed. I don't remember anything. Right now my system is still at default settings and I don't feel confident I can overclock safely. I'm not sure what my options are. I could swap out the 140 mm fan with the industrial to keep the same cpu cooler. If I had gotten a larger case I would have gone with the NH-D15. I believe the tests I've seen with two 140 mm fans didn't produce great results. I don't currently have any plans to stream again unless how I feel physically changes so maybe I can switch around my fans. Apparently to use the ppc 3000 rpm I need to contact noctua to ask for a different type of clip to attach to the cpu and then maybe I'll get better cooling.

The only thing I feel the need to comment on is YouTube ad revenue. My only suggestion would to space out your video postings a little more once the final draft is ready. Putting 3-4 videos out in the span of a few days to a few weeks is a lot! If you have 4 videos ready, maybe schedule them to one a week, or even every other week? It keeps you active in the space, and also gives you time to focus on other projects. I totally understand wanting to get the final drafts out fast so you’re not tempted to keep tinkering with them, but just thought I’d throw these thoughts out there. Obviously this is totally your decision, and I don’t know exactly how the algorithm works, but just my two cents! I’m grateful that you keep us updated about projects! I’m just happy to be along for the ride. 😁

I just emailed Noctua and they should send me clips to try two ippc fans on the u14s so maybe I can overclock ^_^ At least I can not have throttling.

This is very true I have a hard time being patient! I read an article that did some experimentation and I believe they concluded you either post every day, which is just unattainable for me, or once every 5-7 days. Until you get to every single day, most often than that doesn't produce a huge difference. For my analytics I'd choose to do every 3-5 days if I could but once a week should still be ok.

You're probably okay without overclocking. There's not much headroom to do it anymore these days anyway, the cores pretty much boost up as high as they can automatically (temperature permitting). But there should be default profiles in the UEFI/BIOS. The default is normally single clock boost so 1 core at 5.3Ghz and the rest at 3.7Ghz. But there are other options that should boost all 10 cores from 3.7 -> 4.9Ghz without any manual overclocking and it's an officially supported mode, and would give you like a 25% improvement on something like rendering. I would recommend downloading some monitoring software like HWMonitor to see what's going on if you haven't already. If it's still causing you issues in the future you can always hook up another computer/phone and have a tech support stream which I'm sure wouldn't be frustrating at all lol.

Render times are mostly affected by gpu and... well, expectations. You could compromise a bit on the lighting department (which is the most demanding) to decrease the rendering times. The software subscriptions are annoying, but it is what it is, i myself used to use a cracked version of illustrator because I wasn’t doing that much vector design, but still needed it for work, like once a week. (Ended up licensing, nowadays i feel like i own nothing and I’m paying rent for my life). I also feel tired especially when I’m hit with a long project. I usually make a rough plan, write down some milestones to give me the illusion I’m making progress (prevents my soul from getting crushed), and keep at it. I definitely recommend you make a designated schedule for work (like a normal work day) and don’t get over 8 hours a day. Also when you’re done for the day, go out, to the park, forest, random places, it don’t matter, just go. I used to randomly walk around my neighborhood, just picked a direction and went as far as i wanted, helps unwind the mind and body, leading to a decent if not good nights sleep. Art is about the journey and elation trough creation, take your time and enjoy the process, if you do, the outcome will be satisfying. Good luck.

Running the YouTube rat race sounds unfun. I'm of the opinion that good things come to those who wait, so I'll be around for the foreseeable future to see what transpires. Regarding cracks I've got access to AUTODESK_MAYA_V2023-LND although releases for Maya, 3ds Max, and V-Ray seem to be prolific on TPB. The last two rough cuts were great so anything that maintains that trajectory sounds awesome.

Would you feel ok with posting sort of “behind the scenes” videos of some of your work that could help keep ad venue up? Maybe short things that wouldn’t require much editing effort? Or would that be more work than the payoff would warrant?

this is so late but recently I've really been enjoying falling asleep to longer form SCP/Lovecraft narrations

You sound a bit tired and stressed. If you're feeling stressed in general, that could be one reason for the fatigue. People forget how exhausting anxiety and depression are. Absolute energy vampires. Telepathically beaming you good energy and positive brain chemicals. I wouldn't ever want you to get so stressed about the "business" of creating that you can't enjoy creating. As a person whose creative attention span is all over the place, prone to the extremes of hyper focus and zero focus, and also trying to bite off way more than I chew in skill level, I really feel some of this.

Ardra Neala

This is all very accurate from a motivational aspect. It's very validating to hear someone get it or experience the same stuff. However, at the moment it's due to the autonomic issues, I'm pretty well mentally. I've been bedbound for most of the last month. It's more like air hunger/palpitations and brain fog. Iron supplements and daily exercise is turning it around. I may need a beta blocker. Scheduled with the cardiologist and going to finally after 10 years see a post Lyme disease specialist. Eating high iron foods, drinking salted water and running is my priority at the moment. I'll figure it out.

Once I get my energy back, I will be in full adhd brain with the hyperfocus so I'll need your help as someone with lived experience!
