Things NOT To Say To Black Women

Comments

Mark Taylor

When I was in my early 20's and held my friends baby and I had more of an afro the baby looked at my hair and then touched it. Even little white baby's can tell that the hair is not the same as theirs and they want to touch it. ha ha that didn't bother me too much as it's just a baby but I know exactly how it can be rude. Glad you liked this. There is a few different ones like Things Not to say to Mixed, Asexual, Single, homeless etc so will defiantly suggest others in the future.

Wow, that's wild that you haven't heard most of these because even as a black man I could definitely relate to most. I had someone at work like last month touch my hair when I took my braids out and had an afro for a few days (asking me if he could touch it and touching it before he got an answer, he's a lot older btw). You must not be in a lot of predominantly white spaces then, I know you've mentioned before that you are mostly/generally around black people. In elementary and middle school I remember having people touch my hair and make all kinds of wild comments. There was a girl who was a friend of mine who once touched my hair and I got annoyed and she laughed and said it felt like a sheep and then proceeded to tell other lil white kids to try and touch my hair. We must have been around 13-14 at that point.

Yeah I've only heard most of these on social media or tv, not in person. But I purposely seek out black spaces so I'm sure that's why. It's a bit more understandable that children do/say this type of stuff but it's crazy to me that adults are still doing this in 2021, it gotta be on purpose at this point lol

Yeah babies/kids are usually curious so they get a pass. Adults though, nah lol they're purposely being ignorant. But yes, good pick! Would be interested in hearing the others also

Existing in predominantly non-black spaces is EXHAUSTING! if i could, i would have all my spaces be black but i work in a predominantly non-black workplace (literally 1 of 3 black people out of 160 +) and i've dealt with a multitude of these things. Yt people literally have nothing but nerve and audacity and i don't have the time of day for it. I am outspoken and put them in their place when these things happen and it doesn't stop them from happening so i can't imagine how my quieter and shy sisters dealing with this same shit deal with it.
