Hello!

Sometimes I get caught in a cycle of the same movies, books, activities, and whatever else. If you also suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.

P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️

TV Shows/Movies:

Moomin (1990):

An enchanting animated series all about the eccentric and joyful Moomin family (a family of white hippo-shaped trolls who live in Moomin Valley). The show is based off a series of books and comic strips written and drawn by the Finnish author Tove Jansson. Jansson brings a charming nuance to these otherwise adorable and innocent creatures. Through her stories Jansson explores the themes of loneliness, meaning, even homosexuality - which for a story that started in the 1940’s - is not only brave, but incredibly healing and hopeful. Jansson had relationships with both men and women throughout her life, and her open and accepting nature is just one of the things that makes Moomin such a special and tender story to share.

Some amazing person has made all the episodes available to watch on YouTube and it’s been such a blessing for this nostalgic autistic. The episodes are colourful, soothing and deal with the characters issues in both an enjoyable and respectful way. Sometimes there isn’t a bad guy, sometimes there isn’t a right or wrong - sometimes, there are just people living their lives differently. I highly recommend the Moomins to anyone who adores fairytales, cottagecore, and the beauty of tolerance.

The Company of Wolves (1984):

An atmospheric dark fantasy, where nightmares and fantasises battle for reign. A young woman dreams that she lives in an enchanted forest with her family. Following a tragedy, the woman becomes embroiled in a hunt for a pack of terrifying wolves that haunt the forest’s inhabitants. Romantic, enchanting, with a dark and tantalising edge, I can totally see this being quite a few people’s sexual awakening. Whilst never pornographic, the sensual atmosphere and slow, deliberate exploration of nature, fear and excitement, really do evoke feelings of romance and palpable anticipation.

Penelope (2006):

A modern fairytale with so much whimsy and charm it’s enough to make you cuddle up and sleep happy. Born with the face of a pig, Penelope spends her life as a prisoner, only seeing blue blood suitors in the hope of one day breaking her curse. After seemingly endless rejection, Penelope breaks free and enters the very real and wide world. Enjoy the fun, camp and enchanting story of a girl who deserves the world.

Games:

Stray:

Want to reunite a kitty cat with his family whilst balancing the fate of a dystopian earth? Me too. Stray is an immersive game, with easy game play, fun puzzles, plus you also get to cuddle with robots, save your little guide from the baddies, and scratch as many rugs as your heart desires. Completely not overhyped. I am not a gamer. I honestly find a lot of  games boring, but this is a rare exception for me.

Planet of Lana:

Aliens invade, kidnap your friend and family and leave alone and hopeless. So, what’s the next logical step? Team up with a magical kitty cat, of course. Filled with fun puzzles, cool visuals and an intriguing plot - this is a cozy little game for a cozy little you. Perfect for when you don’t want to think too hard, and you need something to wind down with.

Music:

Goodbye  - Bo Burnham

Give It To Me Baby - Rick James

CVNT - Sophie Hunter

Mic Check - Sophie Hunter

Girls & Boys - Blur

Strangers - Ethel Cain

Valentine - Laufey

This Land - Hans Zimmer, Lebo M.

Fortnight - Taylor Swift (Ft. Post Malone)

Activities:

The Power of Stickers & Highlighters:

I am every white woman everywhere - and on this one - we are absolutely right. Romanticise that diary, that list, that scrap of anything. Splash life and colour and whimsy onto your everyday tasks and enjoy ticking them off all the more for it.  Because I am a big old baby girl, I love pastel highlights, bunny stickers and even some cute washi tape. But you decorate your paper however you see fit!

I think the songs in the Lion King are fine, but I love that you're including the background score! The background music in the Lion King is genuinely some of the most powerful music I've ever heard. The stampede music, Simba discovering his father's body, seeing his father in the clouds, his final fight to the death with Scar, and his climbing the rock to become king at the end, the whole score is just gorgeous.
