Ahhh we’re getting close to the end🥹 GED is an exam for those who didn’t graduate high school. Passing that will get you a certificate equal to a high school diploma. I took the exam and got the certificate years ago so I can go to college since I’m already 18 when I came from the Philippines and the school here in California told me I was too old to be in high school so either I go to an adult school to get a diploma or take the GED. I took the easier route and took the exam.

I think what makes seungwans story more impactful is the fact that Korea is very hard on academics and her decision really deviates her from the path she was on. All high schoolers take the CSAT when they graduate and from what ive heard your results can really make or break your career/ life (maybe more so in the past). I believe that in Korea is it very normal to go to after school crams/ study session with a tutor and even have studying periods at school during the weekend. I think what the mother meant by if she was gonna throw a year away is about how much time, effort and hard work seungwan has put in to study to prep for CSAT, plus as a top student too. Also she probably has to wait even longer now that she has to take a GED first. Even if she transferred school idk how plausible it is given the fact that it could be a long process and the CSATs were a month away. On top of that she now has a permanent record of her dropping out of school which i think would be really hard for other schools to accept her even if it was all for the right reasons
