Happy New Year! Enjoy this horror!

The Hooked Fouler, obviously by its design, was inspired by Half-Life 2's Barnacles. In the video game, these monsters like to hang over high-traffic areas and slurp up anything unfortunate enough to touch its sticky tongue.

I wanted to visit that concept but make it a bit more aggressive, so the Hooked Fouler was born!

When designing this creature, it became evident that this would have been more appropriate as a Hazard. Hazards in Pathfinder Second Edition can constitute multiple things, such as environmental disasters, magical effects, bound ghosts, and in this case, creatures. But I still wanted to keep the stat block as a creature, and with some adjustments, I found that this can make an interesting trap-like monster for those unwary dungeon divers.

Another neat fact I learned when making this creature, and after talking to one of the PF2E Designers, is there is no 0 Feet movement speed! Typically in stat blocks, you have your movement speed; usually, it's around 25 feet. So how do you make a creature that isn't meant to move? And you can't give it 0 Feet of movement?

Some may point out that there is one monster in PF2E's Bestiary that has 0 Feet of movement. That is an error on Paizo's side! So the solution to keep the Hooked Fouler locked in was to give it a permanent "immobilized" trait if it's embedded in a surface.

I had a lot of fun with these creatures during testing, and each group had a mini panic attack trying to get free of these creatures. But with luck, every group was able to get past these things!

Thank you all for the support thus far, and we hope you terrorize your party with these creatures in your campaign!

Side Note: I'd like to apologize in advance, OnCallGM had to go into surgery, and ToTellStories (who helps make these PDFs) has been busy taking care of him. So if they get time, we'll get to the second PDF as promised for this month! Please show them some love, as they seem to be CURSED, every time we get ready to do a thing something happens to them.
