This song is apart of a trilogy of songs-Cardigan, august, and betty. Its about three teenagers James, betty, and agustine. Cardigan is from betty's perspective in the future 20 or 30 years and it is about her and james relationship. The song august is next and it is about the girl james had a summer affair with named agustine and it is from augustines perspective, the last song betty is from james perspective and it is basically an apology song for having the affair. All this is a fictional story taylor came up with

I Am Not Chamari

I love cardigan, but I love folklore as an album. I don’t self-identify as a Swiftie, but folklore is really the album that made me fall in love with Taylor’s songwriting and storytelling abilities. It’s just so beautiful and I wish she did a visual album of it so we can react to more of the songs together! All of the songs on the album do have an indie-folk vibe and are slower to mid-tempo. For me, the video feels like a visual representation of the experience of songwriting and what it means to her. It can be her savior and lifeline, her gateway to explore worlds uncharted if unknown, her comfort and solace, etc. it must feel so adventurous to write songs that take you on these journeys, especially now learning that she felt she could really write mostly about fictional situations and relationships, and not always be strictly autobiographical.

part of what makes taylor taylor is she doesn't really have a particular sound or genre. her first album doesn't sound like her second, etc. she experiments and flirts with difreeent sounds and genres. folklore doesn't sound like reputation, reputation doesn't sound like lover, lover doesn't sound like...you get the picture lol it's what makes her taylor. you don't know what to expect, but you know she's going to excel at it whatever it is lol

Folklore is such an amazing album!! Definitely my favourite, closely followed by 1989 and Midnights... (At this moment in time. I kinda go between which of the 3 is my favourite depending on how I'm feeling. Rn though, Folklore is everything to me...) There's not a single song on this album that I skip. They're all brilliant!

This album won the Grammy for Album of the year. Definitely Taylor is known as the best songwriter of her generation and anything of hers you'd prob see if you do a little look over of the lyrics after a watch of a music video or live performances you might react to. I'd recommend you check out some live performances like this grammy museum one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1Zt47V3pPw

Folklore and Evermore (her two indie albums predominantly focused on storytelling) , Taylor is an amazing lyricist, even through her country songs to her pop songs, she always incorporated an element of storytelling throughout her career.
