"what the heck are those two doin' in a tree?!" i like to imagine that's dan scott saying that line lmao

Tealhiid

This line will forever not be funny and I think it could arguably be the most iconic line of the whole franchise.

In this film, you could definitely debate whether or not Sharpay is the villain. (Well except for how she treats Kelsey) She and Ryan really trained for the musical, while Troy and Gabriella just kinda did it on a whim. Actually in the beginning of The Start of Something New and Breaking Free, that was Zac singing, but that's the only time you hear him sing until the sequels.

Brianna Smith

please watch the second one if you can

ok clearing up some stuff here or questions you had: -) The high school is a real school in which they filmed in Salt Lake (they use the same school in the show High School Musical The Musical: The Series) -) Zac Efron was dubbed in the first movie bc he was going through puberty and his voice wasn’t stable enough. He sings in both sequels though. -) Vanessa‘s acting also gets way better in the sequels. -) Glee came after High School Musical, it was actually one of the reasons Glee could thrive bc HSM made people sign up for glee clubs in schools and stuff. I loved your reaction, sorry I couldn’t stay up long enough to watch it live 😬 You being a sharpay truther makes me somehow very happy 😂

Ashley

There's a few different rumors about why he didn't sing but none have been confirmed i don't think and zac himself said in an interview that he wasn't given a reason and fought to use his voice in the other movies. Some of the rumors were that he had to work on his voice, his voice was too low but the songs were adjusted in the other movies, and that drew seely had already recorded them and they didnt have time to re-record (drew seely actually co-wrote one of the songs)

Victoria

I love that your favourites are Sharpay and Ryan :D I had so much fun watching you react to this movie and I hope you will continue with sequels, because Sharpay and Ryan gets better and better :)

also yay re: sharpay. watching this back as an adult i'm like "okay is she really that bad, or is she just a theater kid and we were just Like That" lmao like of course she's over the top but in comparison to say, rachel berry, i think it could def. be worse. also she tracks as just typical theater kid + possibly neurodivergent (as a lot of us tended to be)...singularly focused and passionate about what she loves. i'd love for him to react to her movie sometime. she's such a fun character and you can tell ashley had so much fun playing her.

NICKWEAKASS

Hope you react to the second movie

Raquel Perodin

Agreed, Sharpay is the best part of the movie. I liked her songs better too.

I Am Not Chamari

I’m actually really excited that you enjoyed this. A couple of thoughts: So what Troy said on camera is that “Gabriella is not important. I’ll forget her and I’ll forget about the auditions.” That’s… kinda harsh. Sure, their friends are actual jackasses, but Gabriella was right. Chad did not make Troy say those things… I thought it was weird how he went to business as normal after saying that. I get he was BS-ing the team, but idk, I blame Troy too for how that all went down. I know Sharpay was a bit mean to Kelsey, but I was always annoyed at how she reacted to their performances. Like, sure, musical theater can be about sincere emotional ballads and vocals, but a big part of musical theater is also showmanship and spectacle, and it’s simply weird to pretend otherwise. Sharpay and Ryan were GREAT for that reason and I totally preferred their version of her song to how it sounded originally. Ryan is my favorite character of the series. I really hope you watch 2 and 3 again because his character evolution is my favorite. Also, it’ll be helpful to see how much Zac grows as a vocalist, (that was him singing on Gabriella’s balcony live. When Troy was rehearsing, it was drew seeley on the recording I’m pretty sure. ) and how much Vanessa grows as an actress. Zac did Hairspray before filming for High School Musical 2 and he is absolutely stellar in that film, so I never thought the problem was that he couldn’t sing. There’s a magic to this movie that I’m not sure can ever be recaptured idk. It’s just really special.

Davonte Morgan

The 2nd one is way better, in my opinion

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

I really do love the 2nd one a lot. Very fun summer movie. Hope you react to that as well.

I don’t think anyone understands how Ryan and Sharpay audition for couple roles.

Isaiah McCalister

To this day, Sharpay sucks. 😂 She doesn’t get a pass for being “another theater kid”

Isaiah McCalister

I hate the argument that Sharpay and Ryan did it because like you said, it’s a musical, it has story. Not every musical is upbeat. They also are a couple in the musical it’s supposed to be slow. It’s like speeding up a Luther Vandross song to make it “more upbeat”
