Besides the show doesn't really tell you if he pays for anything but he gave you a little bit of indication when he says tell your mom I'll pay for that meaning the lamp

And also people forget that when the show first started you learned that the kids were living with their grandMa while Carrie was on the road. Making money for the kids. So they both literally have done it in their lives. And you don't know that he doesn't call them and check up on him. Or help pay bills And the fact that Carrie has room and board while working there

It's the Christopher paradox from Gilmore Girls. They've got a deadbeat on their hands but they forgive him without any real reason to or without any character growth from him. It's weird when shows do that because that's just so far from real life that I don't think anyone could relate to that kind of storyline. But I guess it IS a kids' show after all...

I totally agree with everything you said. All I remembered from watching this episode as a kid was that the dad was the “fun parent” who wasn’t around the boys. But rewatching this with you as an adult, I agree, this was not handled well at all. I feel like this show often has instances where it misses the mark on serious topics. Like for example, the previous/recent episode where Zack pretends to be Dyslexic and he doesn’t really get that bad of a punishment, or the show doesn’t really take the time to educate about learning disabilities, it just makes it into a joke. I think Wizards is a bit better at handling more serious topics and making a learning experience out of them for the kids.

honestly that's realistic. I can very much relate and i guess you just never experienced that...i think that's why i loved this as a kid and now just feel bad for them as an adult. My dad is very much like Kurt and while my mom is not as responsible as carrie, she is gullible like her and also forgave my dad a lot despite them remaining divorced and him never paying child support or actually parenting me.
