The sad thing for Lorelai is to her, the Independence Inn was the first place that truly felt like a home to Lorelai, so it's got to hurt to see it like that. Jess is being an idiot.

if paris had been wait-listed at harvard, rory's deciding not to go could have helped her (moved her up the wait list, closer to a spot in the incoming class). but it didn't sound from her meltdown speech at chilton like she was wait-listed. (it would have been in the same letter as the "we regret to inform you . . . ")

I think the reason Rory and Lorelai are making the lists is because thy have both realised how close Rory will still be if she goes to Yale as they have never been apart, and accepting Harvard would essentially be a goodbye

To your question about getting into a college if someone declines, that can happen if you are put on the waiting list. Sometimes instead of an initial rejection, you can be put on the waiting list and get accepted of someone else declines.

loved that reaction! I totally agree that Lorelai handled that situation really well. I love when they show how good Lorelai is at managing things. Rory going to Yale didn't take me by surprise tbh bc I always thought she was going to end up at the same college as Paris - their banter is way too good to let it end. And since Paris didn't get into Harvard, I was kinda assuming Rory wouldn't go there either.
