It was pretty random that Lauren went with them, and of course the creepy showrunner wanted an excuse to have her in a bikini looking stupid. I get what you mean about a lot of little moments without buildup. I do think the whole adoption storyline was leading up to Brooke's pregnancy reveal though. I guess the build up for the Karen's cafe thing wasn't that specific, but we have Mouth and Nathan trying to save a big piece of their childhood, and the new baby has them thinking about the next generation and it doesn't seem so outlandish that Haley would want the town and her kids to have a place to hang out where she always felt safe, especially when the river court might be demolished. She worked at Karen's - that was her first job when she was finding herself and who she wanted to be. We saw Karen mother her more than her own mother. It's not like she'll probably never go back to music, but she's not going to be going on tour or even necessarily spending a ton of hours in the recording studio when she has a tiny baby. Karen had a crib in the cafe for Jenny when Jake was working there.
