WHY THE FIRST RELEASE IS TAKING SO LONG (Patreon)
Content
- my life
- the game
For what concern my life I can only say that study programming on my own without any external help is difficult... and since I'm not all that fit about programming make things even worse and sometimes take me a couple of days for use well something even if I understand it without problems.
For what concern the game, well... there are various reasons:
- map size, the map of the first release is the one you can see in the picture, I admit that I started with a map that RPG MV have ready BUT I modified it for fit my taste
- number of maps, the first release will provide 6 locations:
> the "first spawn" map where the story start
> a dungeon
> settlement 1
> settlement 2
> settlement 3 that is the big one in the right and is composed by 2 maps
> a lone tent
aside this ones all the maps of the houses and shops of the settlements and the special ones that are part of the story that I don't want to spoiler
- gatcha, the feature that took most of my time for work and who know if will took other in the future but I found a way for low the number of problems
- day / night mechanic, there is this nice mechanic in the game that is important so I have to make it work or progress is quite screwed
- 3 other mechanics, technically speaking they are based on checks and 3 different variables, they too are essential for progress so if they don't work it's a disaster
- team, I work on this all alone, I can't pay anyone and I can't take in team anyone, expecially for free
- classes, at the beginning I wanted to make possible change between 4 classes, instead I was forced to create a branches like system with each branch about a single class
I'm taking time for do it as good as possible because I plan to use the project in my portfolio plus I want to do a "big" first release for take some distance from some small ones that normally we see between games made with RPG MV
any critic is appreciated
A side note about the article I wrote, I plan to unify it and add into a single big file fro create a "complete guide" so every time I'll release it there will be something new inside it, I'll treat it like is some kind of game putting a change log with all the addition I'll make but instead use the "version" I'll put the number of release
