Using 3D Models as Reference(Creation Process) (Patreon)
Content
If there's anyone here who wishes to become a professional illustrator or simply wants to find ways of improving their art, I can't recommend the use of 3D models enough.
As I explained in a previous post, I only learned about it a few weeks ago, and so far, I'm having a lot of fun with these tools.
The human anatomy was always a great challenge for me to draw, so most of the time I would take pictures of myself to use as a reference. It usually took a lot of time and could be very hard to find the right angles I had in mind. The use of 3D models makes the process much faster and allows me to experiment a lot more.
For every beginner artist that is struggling with how to improve, I tell you that the use of references could(and probably is) the key for you go further. Free yourself from the idea that the use of reference is cheating. Every major visual artist that stepped into this world had made use of references at some point. Not everyone has a photographic memory(I certainly do not).
Of course, using references is different than tracing others artists' works. Create your own references. Take photos, pose 3D models. Use anything at your disposal to bring life to what's in your imagination.
For anyone interested in the software I'm using for these 3D models, it's called Magic Poser. It's available for Android and iPhone. Personally, I found it easier to use it on an Android emulator for PC. The emulator I'm using is called BlueStacks.
I'd also recommend this site called Sketchfab. It has a ton of 3D models you can rotate and scale. It can come in handy when you're searching for some specific reference. I used it to find references for the electric guitar the demon girl is holding.
I hope this post can come in handy for someone.
