Last animation practice for the week, of Mleth's OC, Brooke. She's a firearms instructor and she's very cute!

I went into this thinking it would be an easy project I could finish in a day -- a cute little gift for Mleth, a cool dude and great artist who's done some cute sketches of Iru and Paz already.

Well, I was wrong, lol. The mechanics of firing a gun are way more complicated than I thought (my gun knowledge is almost zero), and getting the timing right was rough. I'm still not 100% satisfied, but I did the best I can at the moment.

I'll have more Iru and Paz next week! And I'll probably lay off on the animations for a little while. Learning is still fun, but I there's a ton of other stuff I wanna get done.

A collab would be really awesome. Brooke might learn a thing or two from Iru.

Love seeing you doing more animations! The kickback on the gun is really nice, but it looks like you used 2-frames? I'm curious what the spacing is between it. If you went straight from "aiming" to the full extreme of the kickback, it would make the gun seem really strong (and let you focus on more follow-through animation). The ponytail is the only thing that moves too much, I think.

I did have the kickback as a single frame at one point, but it almost made it feel like Brooke couldn't handle the gun, so I added a middle frame to soften things up a bit. I probably could've just made it a less extreme movement, but I already had a bunch of stuff sketched out...I dunno, one of the things I'm learning more and more is that I need to plan stuff before I jump right into it, lol. Thank you for your advice!

Oh yes! Planning always makes things better. I have a rule for myself that "Thinking is Working" so I don't feel guilty if I just have to stare at a scene for an hour visualizing it and making rough notes. Also, slow-mo videos are your friend. By default the < and > on your keyboard while on YouTube will move a video1 frame ahead or backwards. Keep up the practice!
