Usually, these shows are split into three separate arks. It'll be a continuous story throughout it's just they switch things up a little for each ark.

I'm not sure if a proper watch of the original kamen rider makes much sense. It's a very different show that was just finding what it wanted to be. It's a lot more "monster of the week" and comes in at an astounding 98 episodes. I think the best place to go back to is probably the start of the new era with kamen rider kuuga.

Glad you saw the connection of the smash and the Riders. One of the reoccurring themes in Kamen rider is that the source of a rider's power is connected to the very thing they fight. I love this concept since to me it feels that the message was that ones choices make a person good or evil rather than their origin.

Also I believe the entire 50 episodes is considered a season. Each series shows1 episode per week until that respective riders series is over. The only breaks occurr during major Japanese holidays (ie golden week) or major dangers to the populace (covid forced them to delay the production of Zero one)
