There is somewhat of a debate among fans as to whether God was speaking through Mr Johnson here. There is a clue that supports the notion that it was God, that happens much, much later.... I suppose it could simply be like with the blade, as soon as Dan let go of it he could not remember threatening Lucifer with it - but that persona was definitely Dan when he held the blade... so was Mr Johnson just acting out under the influence of the medallion, or was God actually speaking through him?

If God Johnson wasn't really God, then how did he immediately recognize Lucifer at the beginning? I never could figure that one out.
