Everyone says WTF when Candy makes her appearance. But not everyone gets the reasons behind why Lucifer and Candy performed this con, even after it is revealed. You grasped both reasons, and I commend your depth of insight for that. And yes, most agree with your assessment that Lucifer believing the feelings between he and Chloe are not real is in fact an illusion based on his fear of being manipulated. And he sure turned the tables on the Goddess, manipulating her into revealing her plan...
