Quick Tips #1 - Finding lore word pronunciations (Patreon)
Content
Hey all! I thought I'd start a new class of posts to document various quick tutorials or pieces of information for art, writing, research, roleplay, and anything else I'm into, and think you might be into too. Most of it isn't going to be big enough for its own article, but will still hopefully be interesting and helpful to someone!
This first one is adapted from a Tumblr years ago: Using Skyrim to find out how to pronounce lore words.
1. Load up the Creation Kit with Skyrim.esm (and any DLC esms). You can download it through Steam’s Library > Tools tab.
2. Go to Edit > Find Text and type in the word you’d like to find. Press enter, or hit the Find Text button. If your word appeared in dialog, it’ll show up in the box below, under the Infos tab. If it didn't... All out of luck. Sorry.
3. Pick one of the lines in the Topics list and click it to display text in the Infos box to the right. Double click the line in that box.
4. This will open up the general quest editor, with your response highlighted in the Infos list on the right. Double click the line.
5. This will open up the Topic Info editor for the line that features your word. There’s a whole bunch of stuff here, but what you’re looking for is in the Response Text window at the top. Double click it when you find it.
6. This will bring you to the Edit Response window. Look towards the bottom, in the Audio section, below the “Select Sound” button. There will be at least one file listed down there, sometimes more. Just double click that and it’ll play the line, allowing you to hear how Bethesda’s voice actors pronounced that weird obscure lore word.
And voila! You can now sound confident as you make your lore video, audiobook, or Tamrielic beat poem.
