Have you ever read the tweet by Pablo Hidalgo about his feelings on the EU being scrapped? He says that it was first talked about years before Disney bought Lucasfilm. I really like his view on how he hated the idea at first but then he realised George's vision in 2012 for the ST was starting to mess with the EU canon so by making the EU non-canon, it protected it in a bubble, instead of being increasingly changed.
