Edit

OK, so it looks like Hoyo are specifically targeting Star Rail mods. They've DMCA'd the Game Banana Star Rail site, so it won't be long until the community retreats from Star Rail modding.

My advice to anyone that can live without Star Rail mods - is to not use mods.

To those that can't live without them - it's been an honour! We'll sink with this ship! :sailorsalute 🫡

I'll be leaving my Star Rail mods up for prosterity, but won't be making new Star Rail mods going forwards unfortunately. I probably won't even be playing the game unless we have good confirmation that they no longer care about SR modding (possibly - but will be a while from now - like it was for Genshin).

--------------------------------------------

So there's a decent amount of talk going on about the ban wave that has hit Star Rail in the last day. If you read my edit to the Trailblazer release, you'll see me reacting to that.

Here's what we know.

A reasonable percentage of users have been banned for some reason.

Many of them are stating the reason provided is 'for using a 3rd party program'.

The majority of users are unbanned - including those on AGMG that used 3DM.

Some of those banned used 3DM for modding.

Some of those banned did not use 3DM for modding.

Some used other 3rd party programs like FPS unlocker (or registry hack to unlock), some say they didn't do anything but 3DM. Some used VPN.

Some claim to have participated in account rerolling.

Many that used/did those things also didn't get banned.

The ban wave seemed to have hit a chunk of users around the same time.

The bans are for 7 days (for first time ban/infraction on Hoyo games - next one is 5 years).

At this point, it could be related to all these things, or none of them - e.g. their anticheat system is producing false positives that cause random users to get banned with eroneous messages.

My recommendation is as before - if you value your account beyond modding, don't mod your game, or do anything else weird. Sit tight, wait for more information.

For me who values the game only if it's moddable, I'll continue to play modded and will report to you all if I am banned.

But also for now, I'll be putting Star Rail modding on hold until the situation clarifies - little point in putting a lot of effort into making Star Rail content only to find out later it's getting people banned or not been used because people are scared of getting banned.

Apologies to those looking forward to my Star Rail mods - I'm definetly the one most annoyed by the situation here though!

Thanks for this announcement, there has been some confusion about reasons for these bans but I'm glad you've shed some light on this situation. Overall, one week is a soft slap on the wrist so I assure anyone that has been banned that it'll be fine! You'll be able to play HSR soon. And I agree, just sit tight and wait for more information before making decisions on modding. Hopefully by then we'll be able to see some Kafka lewds! ( ˘ ͜ʖ ˘)

WARNING: Mucho Texto (Too much text) actually i think the majority of this bans is because people are using VPN's while rerolling and spending money on that reroll account to therefore sell that account (that same thing of selling accounts also happened on Genshin a really really long time ago like 3 or 4 months after the game release) and the anti-cheat thing that the game has detect this as a dangerous/problematic program or 3rd party software and that's why most of the bans are happening i also knew about a kind of bug or something were people have their username on the game with a custom color (the most popular example of that was a guy that upload a picture to the hoyolab page or on twitter i don't remember exactly where it was) with a March 7th profile pic and his username was of color pink that's why they were also banning people but for using mods? mmm i don't really know that is the case tho i have a really weird theory tho if hoyo verse already wanted to get rid of the mods and of 3dmigoto they should had done it a really long time ago tho maybe they already know about the modding since it begin but they don't do anything because they don't care actually it might be better for them because some mods make people want to pull for a certain character XD (i mean it happen with Dehya) yeah i know that theory might be all wrong but hey if they really cared they already had ban all of us a really long time ago actually another thing yesterday i saw a video of a mod of Honkai Star rail with Hook wearing the clothes of Klee (it was kind of more like a model swap but not 100% a model swap it was like it Hook was cosplaying Klee) anyways that video was uploaded on Bilibili (AKA the Chinese youtube) so if chinese people are uploading videos on Bilibili of mods of Honkai Star Rail then yeah i think Hoyo Verse doesn't care at all (this is a post comment edit i didn't read the thing of your Stelle post when you talk about that some patreons have been ban by using mods sorry :( but well im still pretty sure on my point that that was not the real reason of the ban maybe it was something else but yeah i still also think that is better to play it safe and wait for a couple of updates on versions of the game to be release)

I would be curious to see what the whale rate % is. I’m betting that they didn’t ban people that are actively spending money on the game. A good % of modders on GI are whales that are bored with the game and haven’t been banned AFAIK.

Lewd_Lad

Could be that. I'm certainly a whale for both GI and Star Rail given that I've been buying primos/jades so I can have the characters for modding purposes :P At the same time, it's very speculative. All we know is that there's no solid evidence that 3DM itself is definetly causing bans... so at this time, we'll tread carefully!

Lewd_Lad

Yes, I was looking forwards to working on her given that she's always in my party :P

Lewd_Lad

A big part of me agrees... but I can't in good conscience encourage you guys to ignore the risks while the issue remains uncertain!

EmiliaTestarossa

This is sort of why Ive been holding off on using mods on HSR. I will wait things to settle down a bit first. I love my Seele x Bronya acc way too much. Too much investment.

Perplexed Guy

I was banned for a week using only my main account with 3DM and a couple of mods, but nothing else. I've never rerolled, used a VPN, or taken screenshots of a UID, so no, it's not the VPN that's the problem. And the reason for blocking sounds: "using third party applications". If there was a VPN block, the reason would sound different.

Perplexed Guy

Many people cope that the situation is like with a genshin, so probably those who get banned should hide something, because they can't get banned just for 3DM. And i wish that was the case, but it's not. Modding in HSR is now punishable and there is a lot of evidence for this. For example, a recent discussion on GameBanana: https://gamebanana.com/questions/44703

Perplexed Guy

Bans for reroll and transfer of accounts - permobans until 2035, bans for using mods - for a week.

Deszera

didn't affect me

Lewd_Lad

Hasn't hit me either - but still proceed with caution. I don't want people to be unaware of what's going on while downloading my mods :P
