So Poison won the last vote. I'm already at the final stages of the animation for her. I've rendered and colour graded the animation, I just need to do some final effects and sound effects and plastering a PHAT watermark on there.

So that'll come out soon.

In other news, the SFM engine (Source 1) has been showing it's age a long time ago, I've been looking into other software for a while and whilst I love Blender's versatility and vastness in it's possibilities, I don't think the work-pipeline would be suitable for my style.

Besides Blender, I've also tried DAZ Studio, which is a bit more up my alley with how quick you can make something, but I don't think animations are that great to make with it, with my current knowledge at least.

I could also wait for Source 2, which is coming out with Half Life: Alyx and if there's news on a Source Filmmaker 2.

I've posted two images along with the animation WIP. One is Blender, one is Daz. Let me know which one you prefer.

So I'm kind of in Limbo, do I change? To which one do I change? All of these questions are kind of floating up there. If you have any insights or maybe an interesting point of view on these things, I'm all ears.

All we know is that Poison won. And her animation is coming out soon.

Have you also looked at Blender? Quite a few people have upgraded to that so, I thought I'd suggest it in the event that you haven't looked into it. :3

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the detail and lighting of the render for the R6 Siege character (I forget her name). Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like Blender to me. That said, I don't know a thing about Daz or its capabilities, and I definitely don't dislike the other image.

I personally like the image on the left better than the image on the right. BUT, I think that's more of a personal preference thing. The image on the right has more "realistic lighting" but... I don't know... I kinda like the overall quality and the character model on the left... Overall, I'm a pretty big fan of Blender but... I guess it's whatever you're most comfortable with. There seems to be quite a few people switching to Blender as well for some odd reason. I only know a few people that are using DAZ and I'm not sure why.

I also believe that the image on the left is DAZ and the one on the right is Blender so... Kinda interesting. Either way, I still think Blender overall is better and seems to have more support but... I still think that whatever you're comfortable with is most important. :3

Yes, that's Ela from Siege, rendered in Blender. I agree with you, I much prefer the lighting of Blender over the one in DAZ. I think DAZ is more a tool to create original characters, which is something I'm interested in and I've actually found a way to import them to Blender. So I think pairing the two would be a powerful set up. I'm rendering the DAZ model in Blender as we speak, it takes a lot longer than in SFM, that's for sure, but I'll post another update regarding the comparison between the two.

I like the pic on the right but for sure prefer your SFM work, I just love the models SFM uses and you are a master of lighting which really helps. I do not see DAZ as an upgrade to SFM like blender is.
