事情是這樣的,老實說我對於自己最近渲染的圖一直不是很滿意,但又說不出個所以然來。

直到昨天我重看了一遍"墮入黑暗的薔薇",看一看,和最近的圖比一比,成為了壓垮駱駝的最後一根稻草。

Honestly I'm not very satisfied with my recent renders, but I can't excatly tell why.

Until yesterday I re-watched "The Rose", and compare with the recent comic, this became the last straw that crushed the camel.


如果有什麼事是我不能忍受的,就是過去的圖比現在的圖還好看—

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's that the past work looks better than now-



之所以這樣的原因,我想主要是我在追求"動漫化"的路上走得太偏了,臉型失真過頭,環境光開得太強,現在回頭看來,大約在薔薇4~5集的時候是最合適的—

目前我先幫賽菈還原成正常比例的臉型了,不過或許是有點審美疲勞,對於到底好不好看我現在非常的困惑,同時也覺得賽菈的頭髮哪裡怪怪的,又找不到好的素材,可能得試著自己製作…

無論如何,目前進展的16頁可能都要重做了,雖然覺得有點心痛,但總比明知圖不好看還繼續做下去好。

I think the main reason for this is that I went too far on the road of pursuing "Anime style", the face was too distorted, and the ambient light was too strong.

I've helped Sera restore her face to normal proportions, but perhaps I'm a bit aesthetically tired, I'm very confused about whether it looks good or not now, and I also feel that Sera's hair looks strange, but can't find better one, maybe I should try to do it my self...

In any case, the 16 pages of the current progress may have to be redone, it's painful, but it's better than continuing to do it even though knowing it looks bad.

總之,我會試著盡快搞定人物的問題,重新找回薔薇最好看的時期的風格。

technical wall of text coming, to give you some perspective. pseudo-realistic anime style like DOA 5/6 only burdens the art director in finding that face style that is divergent enough to look anime-ish but still adheres to real skeletal structure, once you got past designing the look, everything just works because the character looks human no matter where you see them from, and lighting that is physically correct can just be used as is. totally anime style, on the other hand, gives the F U to skeletal structure, real world physics and lighting. 2D manga-style artists actually bends reality when drawing faces from different sides, basically creating many interpretations of perspective which would look ridiculous when applied to 3D model as is. the skull is basically inhuman. the apex of 3D anime cel shade style I would say is arc system works as many would know. to be really honest, it is a pool of very advanced knowledges that's a bit much for a solo artist to achieve. veteran modelers that can create a good anime silhouette meet brilliant shader programmers that can translate anime lighting to codes. even when modeling the mouth they don't rely on the traditional jaw structure. but, all in all it's GOOD to try things. the fact that you self-criticize very harshly is a good atittude to have for artists. still rooting for ya!

Thanks man :^P! I totally agreed Arc system works is strong as MF, an anime 3D like Guilty gear's is my final goal, but it's just too hard, at least can't be done on Daz(Iray rendering), need some cel shading system like Blender or Unity can provide, and most important is knowledge and skill which I'm currently lack of. Maybe some day I'll jump in that pool, but for now I'll restore the style back to The Rose, which is DOA like, half-anime style, art is art anyway :^P!
