I was worried about attempting this animation. I try to be all for attempting new things, but only when I'm sure they will succeed. It's a weak point of mine, fear of failure, but that's a tangent for another time. It's one thing to run a test render and be sure of the desired effect, but this animation required me seeing it all the way through to the end to test the post effects fixing of the stitching's tearing, pixelization, and distortion. I can't afford to be unsure about animations or the time they'll take if I am going to maintain the level of work that I desire on a weekly basis. Long story short, I was worried I would spend a day's work on this to get it into VR only to have it go unreleased.

I hadn't worked on a session where the model leaned over top of the viewer in quite a long time (long enough that I can't recall the last animation that did) as the area on the stitching becomes so distorted and pixelated. I was wary of trying it again, but between the advancing STITCH program and the post work routine I use now it worked pretty well. Way better than I thought it would, actually. For me it's a huge win to see our studio releases not only increasing in quality, but become capable of things that they previously couldn't do.

In that regard, the main thing I took away was that objects in motion (Tsunade and her tits in this situation) don't show off much pixelization or distortion around or within the stitching as long as they stay in motion; not enough to ruin the fun or immersion, at least. This also means I can focus less on offsetting a camera for maximum viewing angle and more on getting the best angle possible. You don't want to stare at her chin as she leans over you, right? You want her tits in your face. Well, so be it. We can do that now.

Looking at this video now after having stepped away from it for some time, I also see the improvement in lighting. When I redo lighting for VR, it's important to me that I maintain the original artists vision, but make it look as good as possible for VR. Sometimes these two concepts can't be exclusive if I am going to bring an animation into VR. Fortunately, I was able to keep Beowulf's original lighting concepts as well as improve on them. That's actually one of the reasons I enjoy working with Beowulf so much. Their lighting is always simple, yet aesthetically pleasing. That's a nice form of stability to have when working with another artist. With Beowulf, they've always understood that sometime I have to change aspects of their work to bring it into VR, and that's also important to me. Back on topic, Beowulf's strong but simple lighting allowed me to add and change it to fit the original theme and make it work even better for VR.

I also learned a harsh lesson... the post work I use to give our videos that drawn look may not be feasible given the length of our videos now. It took half a day to render for each version. Wow.

Anyways, that's enough for now. I'm constantly critiquing my own lack of sharing thoughts and status, but then I throw long, drawn out stuff like this at you. On to the good stuff. Enjoy the videos!
