With the recent polls and questions, some of you asked for me to detail long term goals that I have for myself and Dark Dreams, as well as to just post more in general. Here is a small bit of insight for those of you who are interested.

As I am sure some of you have noticed, lighting has been slowly improving with time. It's embarrassing to look at my old videos now, but that's what we have remasters for. Thanks to a couple different artists I've worked with, I'm starting to combine my personal preference of high contrast (more depth in VR) with softer lighting (more realistic and immersive lighting). It's hard to get a Blender looking animation without the use of a complex engine, but that's my goal. The plan to use Blender (once I can afford a new PC for it) is still in effect, but until then... why not strive to make SFM look better? Or even Blender? It wasn't hard to make this animation look good considering Beowulf already does a damn good job with his lighting (and a minimal amount of lighting at that!), but I still softened up the shadows even more, particularly on the skin. It's meant to be a room with only a couple light sources, so I had to fight the urge to lift the tonemapscale or add bounce lighting for darker areas. And now I am glad I didn't. I am very satisfied with the look of this video.

In my spare time I am teaching myself how to edit videos in After Effects so that ultimately I can cover up the flaws you see from SFM being such an old program. Gone are the days of just color correction/grading/denoising for better looking video in VR. Once I have learned how to effectively correct said mistakes, I'll be adding a drawing tablet to the list of goals for the studio. A drawing tablet would allow me to work MUCH faster as well as accurately when correcting mistakes, as well as opening new doors for editing textures and custom works in general.

I had another item I planned to list as a future endeavor, but as usual my brain encountered a distraction... and that thought is now gone. Regardless, it'll come back to me. Probably while I am trying to sleep.
