Time signature fun, and my new app Flip! (Patreon)
Content
Hi! Quite a few videos this week!
Some modular madness, exploring polymeters and the notion of time signatures themselves and how we perceive them: Boop!
And I also released Flip, my new iOS sampler/groovebox! I designed it to be a super fast, fun, and creative tool for working with the sounds I always spontaneously discover, but besides recording on the fly you can also import any sounds you want as well (plus it comes with about 80).
I started thinking about this around five years ago, and found the developers who could help me bring it to life in 2018, so it's amazing to see it out and have other people creating with it. Here are a few videos:
My main channel announcement, overview and FAQ
A two-minute quick start guide
An in-depth tutorial
And just for fun, a little hype video I had a lot of fun making
These last 3 videos are on Flip's YouTube channel by the way, and Flip also has an Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook if you're interested in following there.
If you're able to check it out I hope it brings you a lot of joy and inspiration!
It's on sale in the App Store for launch week at $7.99US, after which it will still only be $9.99US. I also have a limited number of codes for it that I can give away so please message me if you'd like one and it'll be first come first serve 'til they're gone! Of course if you can support in the store with a purchase or rating or review that's much appreciated. :)
Just to address some of the questions that have come up a lot since it was released:
Why no Android?
We're considering whether it's possible. Android presents a lot more challenges to developers in general, but especially when it comes to apps where real-time audio is important. I'll be making a video on this.
The price is different in my country?
Apple sets all countries' prices automatically based on the US price we set, and for some regions like the EU they require a small additional tax. We've noticed the currency conversions are very loose and it seems they'd rather favor ending things in ".99".
Can the app connect to...?
We've had a lot of inquiries about MIDI and AUv3 implementation, and they are absolutely our priorities for the next major update. Currently the app supports iOS audio interfaces and has Ableton Link integration. You can also export stems, or access your raw recordings through the Files app if you want to send any of your work to another system. For this first release we wanted to focus all our efforts on making it as good as it could be as a standalone tool.
If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer, just leave a comment. :)
Thanks!
