I love how Korra’s last two seasons give us the series’ first airbending and metalbending villains.

Kuvira is great because Korra has been told throughout the show that the world doesn't need her, and now someone like Ozai appears and the world needs Korra again after she's been broken down and humbled by her former enemies. Kuvira is Korra in season 1. They need to feel powerful, they are stubborn, hot headed, Korra season 1 physically oppressed everyone who stood in her way and would've killed them if she could, and Kuvira this season physically oppressed everyone who stood in her way (only on a bigger scale). Like we said, episode 8 was supposed to be Kuvira's backstory, and the only difference between Korra and Kuvira is Korra was secluded her entire childhood while Suyin adopted Kuvira after she was abandoned by her parents.

I remember when I was watching Korra for the first time when it was releasing, I started shipping Korra and Asami in late season 1, just because I liked how they looked together. Then S3 showed their friendship when neither was dating Mako and I loved it to death, they were basically together every episode. Still, I had no idea that there might be something between them until the scene where Asami compliments Korra's hair and she blushed in S4. In the ending scene I expected them to kiss in this portal but nothing, I literally felt like Zuko reading the demise of his great-grandfather, "where is the rest of it?!". Then I read about Nickelodeon meddling with the story... Thank God for the comics, the first one literally starts after they enter the spirit world and they finally kiss, I think even on the first page.
