Recorded at NecronomiCon Providence, August 24, 2019.

Where did black stars rise before they hung over Carcosa? What inspired the King in Yellow, whom emperors have served? Whither syphilis?

Robert W. Chambers’ The King in Yellow has inspired horror authors from Lovecraft to the present darkening day. Arc Dream Publishing's new The King in Yellow: Annotated Edition features exhaustive research by Kenneth Hite and beautiful illustrations by Samuel Araya.

At NecronomiCon 2019, I had the pleasure of moderating a deep dive into the cloud-waves of Hali for the origins, evolution, and influence of Chambers’ haunting tales. Annotator Kenneth Hite was joined by guests Nicole Cushing, James Lowder, and Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

THE BOOK

You can see Samuel Araya’s beautiful artwork and order a copy of The King in Yellow: Annotated Edition at shop.arcdream.com.

INTERESTING VIDEO FACTS

  1. The random music heard in the background is due to a salsa band playing in the public square in front of the hotel and 13 floors down.
  2. We ran late getting to the panel. The room was packed and it made camera placement without blocking audience members very difficult.
  3. This panel was conducted in a room which was to host a party immediately following the panel. We ran long. Sorry!

This episode’s music is “Nyarlathotep” by the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, courtesy Divine Industries. Copyright 2019. Visit www.thickets.net.
