Call me crazy, sexist, or even suicidal, but why aren't there any MALE alicorns? Why in Equestria isn't Prince Shining Armor able to be an alicorn like his wife Princess Cadence? Did he not play a VERY important role helping thwart Chrysalis? Is he not the prince of the Crystal Empire, having the same authority as any pony of royalty? Did he not, with the help of his wife and niece, overcome Queen Chrysalis' influence and kick her out of the Empire, and then much later deal with Sombra and father Princess Flurry Heart? I'm not saying he's the best stallion, uncle, father, husband, or ruler ever. But I do think he deserves alicorn status as much as the mares of his immediate and extended family. Or by Celestia and Luna, prove me wrong and call me a loon.
