Hello, Patreon!!

Two years ago today, June 21st, 2019, I shared the very first concept designs for Villager's Mom, lovingly dubbed "Mamabito", on Twitter! The initial idea was to put a face and design to the unseen character that every Animal Crossing player knows: their loving mother, the woman who sends them letters from time-to-time, a constant reminder that someone out there is thinking about them and loves them dearly... With a dash of sass and silliness every once in a while!

Since then, she's starred in multiple artworks of mine, and held a starring role in the very first sequential comic series I ever created. She even found a proper name: Renée! I've even gone on to expand her family, including her husband, Finn, dubbed publicly as "Papabito"; her mother, currently known only as Grammabito; and her mother-in-law, tentatively called Nanabito!

This character is very near and dear to me, helping me to keep a level head during a global pandemic, not to mention the horrendous year that was 2020. She is certainly what you'd call a comfort character! Drawing her makes me very happy, and I wanted to draw something sweet and wholesome for her birthday. I imagine she's just woken up in the morning next to her husband, who greets her with three simple words:

Morning, birthday girl...

We've just caught her in the moment, smiling that sweet smile of hers, happy to have persevered and found her place in this wild world, surrounded by people who love her. I hope you all love her, too~

Until next time, friends, take care of yourselves, and THANK YOU for your continued support!

I absolutely love this! Just everything from the lighting to the colors to her expression is just so good!

Thank you!! I went ham on the lighting, lemme tell you~ The glow of the sunlight pouring in, the stripes of light across the blanket peeking through the blinds, the subtle vignette around the edges of the piece furthest from the light source... I even went as far as to add a layer of "dust" floating through the sun rays! All in all, there's quite a lot at play here. But thanks to getting the hang of CSP, it came together a lot more quickly than I could have imagined!
