July of 1986 is all about the 2nd annual Great American Bash tour, as Jim Crockett Promotions sets out on another ambitious venture! Multiple stadium shows are on the schedule throughout the month - from Philadelphia to Memphis, Charlotte to Jacksonville.
Continuing the tradition from the '85 Bash, country music stars take part like Waylon Jennings, George Jones and David Allan Coe to provide additional entertainment. Fireworks, skydivers, talent arriving on the field in helicopters, the '86 Bash tour was another spectacle, and was the main focus for JCP in the month of July.
There were no shortage of match stipulations on the Bash shows, from Indian strap matches, to Russian Chain matches, Bunkhouse matches, taped fist matches, singles, tags, a best-of-seven series with Magnum TA and Nikita Koloff, with multiple matches taking place within the confines of a steel cage!
Of course, there would be bumps in the road along the way - from a garbage strike, production issues, weather, even potential interference from the WWE. A pistol whipping, testy country stars and more...David Crockett had a few less hairs on his head when July wrapped up!
And when the month comes to an end, Dusty Rhodes is finally crowned the World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Ric Flair in the cage - it’s a celebration for the Dream’s crew, however, right around the same time, there’s some behind-the-scenes drama that unfolds which could effect one of them going forward!
With one more Bash show on the books for the beginning of August - first, let’s get through July, on The Book - exclusively here on AFS!
