Those of you, my patrons, who read the preview I posted yesterday know the inspiration for this map -  an incredibly touching and soul-crushing scene from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The second source of inspiration was a scene from a campaign I ran a while back which may have served as the single finest piece of motivation I ever gave a player. I wanted to make a map primarily suited for an absolutely tragic scene, the sort of place where you'd go for quiet contemplation and thought, or to fight a refined, honorable villain, not just for blind, murderous combat, and this is what I came up with.

The map itself is devoid of most trees and above a sandy pit, which indicates (albeit loosely) that it's near the seaside. My intention waas initially to draw it in a clear forest, but I figured that maybe it would be more useful like this, with the only tree to be found in the center clearing between the church and one of the two mausoleums.

  • The Supporter-level variants are a stormy night, for spooky conditions, and a clear, sunny day, for non-tragic battles that don't necessarily require the serene grace of a beautiful sunset over the ocean.
  • The Enthusiast-level variant is the church during a happier and somewhat more prosperous time, perhaps hundreds of years in the past. It comes with a sunset version too, this time lit in a brilliant magenta and red glow from the intact stained glass windows, and the other version is also during a storm.

There's two bonus minor variants in this map pack! I tweaked the daylight map to have slightly greener grass and a cherry blossom tree instead of an autumn tree, and there's a more saturated version of the intact church's stained glass lighting available too. The saturated stained glass was actually the original version before I decided to tone it down and brighten it up a bit, but I still really like the way it looks and feel like it may be appropriate for a high fantasy or particularly mystical encounter. The cherry tree version is available to the supporter tier, and the saturated stained glass version is available to the enthusiast tier.

The map is 20 by 20 squares, 100ppi, same as always. All downloads can be found attached to their respective tier posts, and the free version is attached to this post as an image. Props to Eike Schultz for providing the idea for the map, and I hope you enjoy it!
