That guy was Doma, hes currently the Upper two. I guess he used to be the Upper six way back when. The 12 Kizuki can get demoted or promoted when the slots open. And the raking goes like: Upper six (1-6) and Lower Six (7-12). So when they say Upper three that is rank 3 and Lower Five meant rank 11

I don't think the author only wants you to feel sorry for the demons. I think the main point she is trying to get across is how evil and manipulative Muzan is. He comes to these people at the worst point in their life and offers them power. I think a good comparison is Squid Game. These people feel that other than dying, this is the only option they have.

Don't know if they're holding on to the detail for some reason or not, but a little disappointed they didn't go into how/why these two became one demon. Also Nezuko can't heal at all. Her Blood Demon Art specifically burns demon blood and is only effective against demons. All of Gyutaro's attacks were blood based to include the poison so Nezuko could burn it away (also making her the best possible match for him). If it were a spore or any other kind of toxin she couldn't do anything.

The rank of hashira I believe is T0 stone T1 wind mist T2 snake water flame T3 sound love T4 insect. The same tier is difficult to distinguish them but I believe it is generally fair. Sound generally prefers weaker opponents, his fighting style is very slow to ready, he barely finished the techni when facing upper six with Tanjiro's help, so he really was not that stronge.
