Watching this over makes me realize just how sub par naruto's animation is. It's like Studio Perriot decides to do shitty animation for an entire series except for a few episodes (like the next one) in which they put all their work into with the implication that those phenomenally animated episodes are supposed to make up for all the shitty ones. They do it with Naruto. They do it with Bleach. Makes me wish Studio Bones got the series instead, or even MadHouse.

Let’s not forget about the pacing either. This episode isn’t as bad as others but long pauses on character faces. Oof. Nahid was like “I need some coffee” I felt the same way I just kept yawning until Orochimaru was revealed.

when micky said about how people in the village know about naruto having the nine tailed fox inside him, only a select group of ninja like the teachers, elders and the hokage know about this because they were there around the time it happened, their children, the genin don't know about any of this and some of the adults fear and hatred of naruto's nine tails behaviours has been passed down to their children, that's why he was so neglected growing up as people in the village were told to avoid him as he has the potential to be dangerous

Only the adults in the village know the truth about Naruto and the nine tailed fox. The kids know about the story of it attacking the village and being defeated but they don't know that it was sealed inside Naruto.

None of the children know that Naruto has the Nine Tailed Fox inside him. Even now. The 3rd Hokage forbade any of the adults to talk about it. This was explained in the 1st episode.

naruto was only right in that orochimaru didn't care about the scroll. ultimately it doesn't matter because they aren't even skilled enough to escape. Sasuke's desperation to get away was the right mentality to have in this situation. naruto couldn't see that because he came in halfway not realizing the power they were dealing with

Eh, I don't think there was a right decision and I don't think Sasuke had the right mentality anymore than Naruto did. He was literally paralyzed by fear, there wasn't a rational thought going on in his head. Just before Naruto arrived he was about to just let Orochimaru attack and probably kill him. Desperation driven by fear shouldn't be confused with a rational retreat.

Don't forget that while fighting Zabuza and Haku, they had Kakashi, a Jonin, their skilled Sensei, with them. Who not only is obviously really strong, but also provided moral support. Here, they are all alone. Usually they would have taken the exams one year later and have more training and Jutsu available. Now they face this person who can summon snakes, bend their body, stretch their tongue, deep throat a thick a** scroll and various other things. They are shown illusions of their death. They may be Ninja, but they are still kids. Excited for the next one.

Lol Sasuke knew that Orochimaru was way WAY stronger than them is like you are getting robbed by a Rambo type guy with a machine gun and then your friend a 12 year old kid arrives with a wooden stick and think they can win and gets mad because your giving away your wallet. Of course Sasuke would tell him to leave.

The grown ups in the village are the only ones who know about the nine tails spirit being in naruto. The kids actually aren't aware of this.

I think it's been said 100 times already but the "mind attack" was literally just the enemy using their killing intent to to make them scared. Haku ain't shit compared to that so Sasuke knew the best way to survive was to give up. It's a totally different scale.

I remember getting so annoyed with sasuke first watching this episode because like, i really just wanted them to move the plot along. I was like stop holding us up. But in hindsight they definitely should’ve just handed him the scroll and went home lmao. And btw mha is actually inspired by naruto, the creator is a big fan.

damn that was probably the worste episode so far production wise. Permanent still frames with off model drawings lol. Had one sick moment in it though when naruto stood before sasuke

Sasuke didn't do anything because he realised pretty quickly that he was out of his depth and it scared him. Sakura didn't do anything because she was waiting for Sasuke to do something since his more skilled than her (and she's kind of developed a crutch). Also it feels like hours but in the manga this whole interaction is literally seconds long

I think you figured out by the episode's end but I'm pretty sure Sasuke telling Naruto to back off wasn't a pride thing or "I can handle this without you", it was because he was scared shitless. He legitimately thought he was going to die and was trying to make sure Naruto didn't die too.

It's not that they don't know about the nine tails, it's that it's considered taboo by the adults to talk about it so that Naruto could have a "normal" life. NONE of the kids know about it.. they just avoid/hate Naruto because they saw the adults doing it. This isn't a spoiler, just a reminder on what's been touched on at the start of the series.

Exactly. Naruto's classmates shun him but most of them either do it for reasons unrelated to the adults or just because they see the adults do it and understand there's something "bad" about him. I'm not sure they even know about the existence of Ninetails, let alone its connection to Naruto.

The creepiness factor and the overwhelming fight in an exam, perhaps, but that's only a cosmetic thing. Character wise, Orochimaru is a fantastic antagonist in his own right with huge differences from everyone's favorite card-man.

But I mean... no one in Naruto's generation know that Naruto has the fox in him. They only know that the parents don't like him. So he's an outcast. Other villages probably don't know much about Naruto. So if they do that's pretty shady.

if you're wandering why Sasuke is so scared and willing to give the scroll like that, it's because the person they're fighting is waaaay stronger than the other genin. Just looking at the wind jutsu she just opened with, it wrecked a huge part of the forest and that was just to announce her presence
