2021-07-19 11:50:58 Hi Guys, great reactions as usual. By now I assume you've seen both halves of the two-parter, but for those who haven't, I'll avoid talking too much about it yet. I did want to comment about the extended title sequence that you guys enjoyed, with the full theme song. It's really beautifully made, and it's been included in the original cut of each show since the beginning. Canadian viewers have seen the full title sequence with every episode, but in the U.S., SyFy cuts it out of most episodes so they can fit in another minute of commercials - the economic realities of genre fiction, I guess. For the streaming versions carried by Amazon Prime in the US and Netflix Internationally, and for the DVD/Blu-Ray versions, they seem to have used the US cut (with the abbreviated titles) for most of the first season and the beginning of the second season, but they switched to the full titles (like you saw here) for most of the second season. The second season titles are slightly different from the first season ones, and even change subtly from episode to episode as the story progresses, I believe. You can see the full sequences (both Season 1 and Season 2 versions) on YouTube (a few people have posted it); also, the company that produced them (whose name escapes me at the moment) has a portion of their website showing how they were built. Pretty cool if you're a nerd for those kinds of things. The haunting theme music, by the way, was composed by Clinton Shorter (who does all of the music for the show and is awesome), with words written and sung by composer & vocalist Lisbeth Scott (who has done music for Avatar, Narnia, and a bunch of other stuff). The words are actually in Norwegian, of all things, and translate as follows: In the so tender morning I Rise in search Yes it's lightning time I know I share Shouldering this I ask now for darkness Kinda trippy, right? But I really like it.

There was a reddit comment right as the finale came out from some of the VFX people (a lot of them were really active on the subreddit, which was awesome), that they enjoyed making the title sequence, but like you said, economic and time realities kicked in, and it had to go to the wayside a bit. They brought it back for the finale because of the extra time they had. However, because the reaction was so positive towards the sequence, they had enough leverage to not only continue to use it, but use it more in Season 2, giving it a 'Game of Thrones'-esque vibe, showing the different places involved and such.

When are you going to start Season 2 reactions?

Yeah, I'm on the subreddit also; it's a really good group of very passionate fans around the world. I'm not a big reddit guy, but the reddit Expanse group is a lot of fun. And several people associated with the show are regular participants. Bob Munroe (VFX Supervisor) and Daniel Abraham (half of "James S. A. Corey," the writers of the books, who also work on the show) are there mostly, but also people from some of the companies that did some of the Visual Effects (some of which is shopped out) show up now and then, as do people from SyFy and Alcon. It's a really nice community, and I recommend it for anyone who likes this show. The people who make the show really appreciate the fans, and they show it regularly. It's amazing to be a part of that.
