The word Kira is onomatopia for like sparkle, twinkle, glisten etc. Cultually it's probably only widley know as "killer" because of Death Note, but that stems from the Japanese language not having an L sound so when attempting English words they are pronounced as R. A native speaker tying to pronounce "killer" will pretty much alwasy be "kira"
