We're on to Stage 2 of the voting to decide what anime will replace The Boondocks! These are the Top 5 you all voted the most for in the previous poll (https://www.patreon.com/posts/boondocks-you-1-103564840) . Now you have to decide, for real for real, which anime you want the replacement to be!

     --We want this new show to be a new-ish short-ish anime, so that was mostly our criteria for these choices. We did consult our discord and patreon community before this poll was posted, so we hope all is vetted and good!

That's sort of my thing, I get the feeling that solo levelling won't even be a blip, not even worth mentioning a year from now, while frieren is one of the best anime of the last season, and probably one of the best in the last and next few years. But hey, that's why we vote, I just know I won't be watching solo levelling at all, and hope people who are recommending it will stick around.

Frieren is the best show on this list by a few yards. It’s on of the most beautiful anime’s made in a minute and since the crew already watched Lord of the Rings. It’ll hit more. Dr. Stone is a fun show with no stakes you’re gonna feel. Spy Family is good and never gets great. I think there’s a show called Buddy Daddies that does the concept better with two dads. Solo Leveling Up is a fun concept but aren’t we tired of fantasy shows that’s use video game mechanics. Fire Force Sucks.

Frieren is by far the best show here. Great characters, great plot, good action, animated beautifully. Some people might say it's too slow for a reaction series, but i disagree. Dr. Stone is ok but i could never get into it the same way others did (and i've read the whole manga, it falls off imo). Still would be a good pick though. Spy Family is nice, but having watched Blind Wave's reactions to it i don't think it's a good "reaction" series. Fire Force i've also read the manga of, has some very nice animated fights and the story later on becomes verrrry interesting, but the fanservice is a bit much. Also season one has weird directing choices that were divisive. And Solo Levelling sucks. It just does. Horrible characters, horrible "plot", horrible world....everything about it is bottom tier. People will say it at least has good fights but not really imo, they're animated very well but they're boring as fuck. It's just another generic power fantasy self insert series.

I found the first 3-4 episodes to be a little slow (but I think that was because apparently they were originally released all as one or something like that)... anyway after that I really got into and I loved it! The animation and music it is incredible. And the story/characters really pick up ..I highly recommend giving it another chance.

Frieren is overrrated in my opinion, I couldn't even finish it, it was too slow for me, and it didn't stand up, again, in my opinion, to other Isekai. For real, Dr Stone or Spy x Family should win, it's original, it's funny, great characters, educational (for Dr Stone). I think we should choose an anime that can provok great reactions, and Frieren isn't it (AGAIN, my opinion). Solo Leveling is cool visually but the story isn't that great. Fire Force is great too but I would prefer Dr Stone or Spy x Family to win. But Frieren for some reason is just too popular and it pretty much is a win for it, so I just hope that they will consider watching Dr Stone or Spy x Family one day...

That's why I don't understand the hype about it. But anyway. It's gonna win no matter what... Sub reactions are very hit or miss... mostly miss. Subs are not a good format for group reactions. It requires multiple people to do an extra thing when it's not needed at all. I would rather see reactors experiencing a mediocre dub than miss crucial information. I love The Normies but they already miss a lot. No need to add more work for them. Besides, the dub for Frieren is pretty decent.

I actually did responded to one of them and said what I meant was an anime in a fantasy word, and I do know what an Isekai is. But I won't apologize for a wrong use of word when the TRUE reason they are pointing that out is that my opinion on Frieren is not to their liking. If I saw a post saying Dr Stone is a romantic comedy, I won't even begin a conversation, I would just ignore and move on to other things, like, is it that UNBEARABLE to see someone calling Frieren an Isekai? that's high level anger issues.

I disagree, the story is a lot more interesting than you give credit to, the animation is great and after having them watch so many anime that requires notes it would be fitting for a show like Solo Leveling to replace The Boondocks since you can just turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is. Frieren is good, but Solo leveling is short it’ll take them less than 3 months to finish it where Frieren will take over half a year. If SL is first we can get 2 shows out of this by the end of the year versus 1 show

Honestly it's just vibes. But it does do something different from almost every other genre. It starts at the end of a journey and we get to follow an ancient character and the neat differences of the decades from her perspective. I wouldmt say it's slow, just that it loves it's atmosphere. But the difference between this and other shows is even in the quiet moments the animation is going off. Also the exam arc in the last 10 episodes is great.

It had ZERO character development, ZERO plot development. It was the equivalent of a Michael Bay movie. Lets not act like Solo Leveling is deep or anything lol. Demon Slayer has more development than Solo Leveling. DBZ has more development than Solo Leveling. The food that I ate this morning has more development inside of me than Solo Leveling.

What are you talking about? That’s over twice as long as SL. The difference is that if the start SL, we’d still get Fre this year, but if they start Fre first we won’t get SL until Next year, which is why length is important

Just to clarify if they do 1 episode a week it’s 7 months of Frieren, if they do the first 4 in 1 sitting (don’t think they would) then that’s 6 months. Solo Leveling would be 3 months. Given that the show will start in June if it’s Solo Leveling that wins a new series will be started by September, if Frieren then it’s December/January (depending on if they do the first 4 in 1). I’m happy with either but that’s how the slot will go depending on which wins

Again that’s based on the Western definition of the term anime e.g. animation created in Japan. From a Japanese perspective however they would all fall under the term anime, so it comes down to your perspective on it. Would you call Thundercats, Ducktales, Ghostbusters, or Transformers anime if so then cool as stated within Japan the answer is yes however many in the west wouldn’t yet they were all animated in Japan. The thing is, we are just assuming they will react to both, and this poll is just for one, people will vote what they love and not having 2 in mind and which one goes first, people always want the one they love goes first, and we never know if they will do both or even 3, so choosing what you love most is the way to go. Mi voto es Dr. Stone pero veo que no va a ganar, mi segunda opción seria Frieren pero solo si si le ponen la atención que requiere que no vayan esperando pura acción porque no trata de eso a pesar de que cuando hay es bastante buena, no todo en la vida es acción, necesitan variarle un poco a su contenido, la mayoría del anime que ven es shonen, nada en contra del shonen es mi género favorito pero hay tanto anime muy bueno fuera de ese genero y a veces uno trae humor para otra cosa

If Blue-Eyed Samurai was on a Western Cartoon poll it wouldn't probably stand a chance against DC, Marvel, Ben 10, Star Wars type cartoon stuff. Blue-Eyed Samurai is not an animated series that's geared towards the general audience who likes traditional western cartoons. It's difficult to classify what genre of animation Blue-Eyed Samurai is.

Which is my point, those shows in the west would be classified as cartoons however by the current definition of what anime is those shows could easily be classified as anime, conversely by that same definition however Blue Eyed Samurai would not be classified as such as it’s creation, production and most importantly animation are not created within Japan. I disagree, it’s pretty easy for me to classify it as adult animation much like how a series like Rick and Morty would not be viewed as anime to western audiences. Whether people think the term needs to change or go doesn’t change how people particularly people like the Normies currently view the term which is likely why they have made their future slot criteria be clearly defined based on their interpretations (the previous poll was “classic” anime but nobody in their right mind would consider a series like Black Clover which is 8 years old as “classic”).

Is it "unbearable" to call Frieren an isekai? No, just objectively and subjectively a false statement. I think Frieren can be a slow burn, but story and character wise is the best of the options. It's just long enough that you can really understand each main character. There's a lot of emotional maturity in following along with Frieren (the character) and her growth that is lacking in a show like SL (which is basically the opposite, the MC loses relatability as the show goes on). PS: I didn't do a direct comparison to SpyxFamily because at this point they are not direct competitors (it's Frieren vs. SL) - I personally would love a SxF reaction and I think the crew would absolutely love it (i would even wager they would like it more than any other option, including my pick of Frieren, if only because Anya is the cutest thing to ever exist and because the humor makes it extra endearing)

One being longer doesn't mean a thing, you're acting like another good show could fit in between them when the whole point of the poll is that this is not an option. Choice between Shonen 1, Shonen 2, Shonen 3, etc... You would think we have enough shonen with Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist(Again), Bleach, Demon Slayer, AND My Hero Academia. Here's my write-in vote for Madoka Magica, Steins;Gate, Psycho Pass, and Made in Abyss. BTW, shonen is no doubt my favorite genre of anime. I've seen every anime on that poll except Frieren which I plan to watch soon. But overall shonen is like different flavor Marvel movies. It's hard not to like them and they're easy to digest which is why they're extremely popular. But like the Marvel movies, most of them are pretty forgettable.

If one of the reasons you're voting for a series is based on series length, it's logical in certain circumstances and it's not hypocritical to use the argument one time vs. another. It's a case-by-case evaluation. If the selection of anime is a lot shorter than an anime that can take years to complete, taking that into consideration makes sense; like it made sense in the FMAB poll due to it being considerably shorter than the other anime in the final poll. Both Frieren and Solo Leveling are short series. Series length wouldn't be a factor in my vote. Also... there are a lot of female neckbeards. It used to be a physical description but now the term has evolved into a personality trait/attitude.
