I avoided saying this through all of s2 but now I can, the manslaughter won't necessarily be used against Kendall since Logan took a role in covering that up( and since they removed all the evidence, Logan's word is essential but he's implicated in the crime if he decides to expose Kendall). Jeremy has said that what made Ken change his mind about taking the fault was the line " no real person involved", the same expression used by Logan to talk about the people who suffered or died in the cruise scandals, a lot of people think that " You're not a killer" was the thing that made him change his mind but according to Jeremy that's not something new to Ken because since the pilot when Logan makes it clear that what makes him unworthy of being the successor is not having a killer instinct, Kendall has been aware of that. So he decided to do what he did after Logan said NRPI because it confirms not only that Logan knew about the cruise scandals but also that he doesn't even care about these people( it also says a lot about what Logan considers real, what interests him).

A lot of people think Logan's half smile means his proud and some even thought that he knew that Kendall was going to do that( but clearly he didn't). I agree that he may even be a little proud that Kendall finally showed some killer instinct but in my mind that smirk is also the satisfaction that instead of taking the fault and getting out of the family drama and the cyclical abuse, Kendall choose to fight him instead, and to Kendall taking down Logan is the only way he can make his dad proud too. Also, the papers that Greg kept and gave Kendall were fundamental for him to decide to do this since if he didnt have any evidence, it would be his word against Logan's.Oh and you asked who was Karl( the old man closed to Frank), he's in the show since s1 but he only started appearing more on s2. He's the guy who was humiliated in boar in the floor with Tom and Greg and the guy who suffered a panic attack while being kidnapped with Roman in the last episode!
