When they startet Season 7 Candice told them she was pregnant and so the incorporated this into the show. As far as I know they initially wanted some women to carry the children and a storyline around that but when Candice told them they wrote the story with Caroline. And Julie Plec even said that this is the most bananas idea they had. 😂

We know that compulsion from Originals to vampires will go away if they get daggered. We have never seen in it when a vampire dies. So the only two ways we know is if a witch does a spell to undo it (Davina did this to Cami in S1 of TO) or if you go into a no magic zone like Mystic Falls was after the Traveller spell. Vervain only can prevent compulsion not make it undone.
