One of the strongest episodes of Season 11 for me again, following Demons of the Punjab. I think the team seem slightly more natural in this episode and it's the first one since The Woman Who Fell To Earth that has felt like there is a real threat to the characters in it (both the supporting characters AND the Doctor and her companions).

Out of interest, are you enjoying this more than Season 10? You seem to be? (Which I'm really pleased about because I was worried you were not enjoying the last season at all in places..!)

Do you know what. I'm conflicted about the muddled writing of this one. Which might actually be the desired response. I for once can't tell. A rudimentary breakdown of the aspects I'm conflicted about. Charlie is planning to use fear terror and violence to affect change, that he and perhaps others feel is needed for society. We all know what the word for that is... An electronic system which may or may not be sentient. I'm not clear on that. It fights back. All the while it's been painted as the possible villian. Which is classic Who misdirect. I'm absolutely fine with that, as plenty of suspicion is thrown the managements way as well to keep us guessing. The commentary on the possible affects of automation and unchecked companies is beyond uncomplicated.... So they foil Charlie's plan and he dies while trying to enact his plan to enlist that change. There's also a word for that as well.... At the end after preventing him from achieving his aims. They then make plans to make the changes he was proposing. So he was crazy.... But his actions did affect the change is was trying to elicit. So is there a uncomfortable message that what he did actually might have worked. I honestly can't decide.

I enjoy this season because of Jodie but it’s not a strong season overall. 😅

Glad you’re enjoying Jodie. I think she’s better in her subsequent seasons too, so if you like her now I think you’ll really like her going forward. I don’t LOVE her… but everyone has their own doctor and she just isn’t mine, especially at the start.

I liked this episode on a first watch. It was one of the few that stood out to me. But on a rewatch, I liked it a lot less due to the message feeling somewhat uncomfortable and conflicted? My opinion on this episode tends to change when rewatching which is a pity because like Rosa, it's one of the few episodes that handles the companions decently and the side characters like Kira and the man who protected Yaz were good too. But the way it ends and concludes just leaves me conflicted.
