Loving these reactions :) To answer your question: there's no reason why the Doctor would recognise the planet. We can assume at this point that he's not been travelling too long,as this is his first incarnation - so there will be many 'first encounters' for him, coming up. Also,if you cast your mind back to Series 9's Magician's Apprentice, the planetary landscape with all the buildings was actually a CGI re-modelling of the one seen here. I really enjoy (in a 'so ghastly it's fun' kind of way) the Doctor's personality in these very early stories. He's so different from the "I'm the Universe's protector and friend" of the revived series, that his anti-hero status makes for interesting viewing. Nonetheless, you'll see the First Doctor thaw :)

I actually think I'm enjoying these more than your New Who reactions. Your responses to the 1st Doctor are making me laugh so much. :D And Ian's plan... LOL. That shot of Barbara with the dalek's plunger is probably in the top 5 most iconic Doctor Who shots of all time.

These are gonna make me watch these OG Doctor Who's. I haven't but seems like my style. Ps. I still can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of Lovecraft Country!

I'm glad you're loving Barbara. She's great. Same for Ian. I love them both. It's interesting to see their dynamic with The Doctor start to develop with their desire to go home and how they try to keep The Doctor in check by calling him out and criticising his methods but there's still an interesting clash of personalities with this Tardis team. That loud curl blood scream that Barbara makes at the end when she sees the Dalek makes for a very effective cliffhanger.
