I still can’t figure out what I am doing wrong about the mega links. I can’t get them to do anything but load the app up. There is no place to type in password or no sign of what I tried to load. I saw someone say they copied and pasted link but I don’t see where to paste a link?

S

Hey so what I did was copy the link from ‘https’ to ‘gwEw’. I pasted it onto another tab which then unlocked the screen to enter the password. Once I entered the password I pressed the option which said to open in the MEGA app. Then I was sorted.

I just learned recently about Jewish resorts. They were located in the Catskill mountains, in upstate New York. This was at a time (the tail end of the time) when Jewish people often weren’t allowed in many resorts & hotels, so they made a bunch along the east coast. It was called the ‘Borscht Belt’ by the musicians & comedians that played the circuit. There was another similar system for African Americans, called the ‘Chiltlin Circuit.’ I think that this is so interesting. I looked up the Wikipedia page on the Borscht Belt and from what I read this movie incorporated a lot of real aspects. For example, it says that "The singles scene was important; many hotels hired young male college students to attract the single girls of a similar age. One book about the era said that the Catskills 'became one great marriage broker'. We can see this in the wait staff that the resort hired. Additionally, "the Borscht Belt resorts reached their peak in the 1950s and 60s, accommodating up to 150,000 guests a year but the start of a decline was apparent by the late 1960s. Railways began cutting service to the area, the popularity of air travel increased, and a younger generation of Jewish-Americans chose other leisure destinations. Another source mentions a secondary factor: "anti-Semitism declined, so Jews could go other places". This is probably why they placed the movie in the 1960s. Also, probably so they could have the abortion storyline before roe v wade.

yeah Patrick Swayze was a ballet dancer. apparently he dreamed to do that professionally but couldnt because of a knee injury so he went toward acting. I remember reading somewhere that Patrick Swayze was actually a much better dancer than the character Johnny Castle was supposed to be so he always had to tone it down. Apparently he asked Kenny Ortega, the choreographer (also director of high school musical lol), if he could have just one moment that would challenge him. And that's where you get the triple spin off the stage at the final dance

I looked it up and apparently 250$ in 1963 is equivalent to $2,100 now. Go baby's dad lol.

miah.sun

lol you were right about Jennifer grey having a stunt double on the log. But that was Patrick swayze. Swayze refused to allow a stunt double to take his place. During filming, Swayze fell from the log several times and the repeated impacts aggravated his old knee injury.

YES YES YES!! Just what I needed today! Now I feel like at some point you should react to “Crazy, Stupid Love”. Just because of its Dirty Dancing references 😆

Also interesting fact they had trouble finding sponsors because of the abortion storyline and wanted to cut it. But Eleanor Bergstein, the writer, refused to cut it. Soo glad they didn't.

otherboy

I was very surprised they had an abortion storyline but I’m glad they kept it as well.

What a treat! Thank you. That was fun.

It’s been a few months since I subscribed to you but I’m so happy to come back to this! 😁

I'm way behind commenting here, but just had to leave a message on a great reaction. It's funny because I was 10 years old when this movie came out and for a long time I would have said Johnny Castle set serious expectations about men for a generation, but the older I get the more I realize that it might be Baby's dad who made my standards for men way high. I mean, not only was he a dad who was willing to grow and be held accountable by his family and acknowledge his mistakes; he was also a very caring an non-judgmental doctor and also mentions something about being upset by people being blasted with water cannons, meaning that he supported the civil rights movement. And despite the fact that he probably did expect her to marry into the ivy league at some point, he was proud of Baby for wanting to join the Peace Corps. And that scene by the lake kills me. Rest in peace to the both Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach, two wonderfully talented men. Btw, you might be a smidge young to recognize Orbach, but he was a Tony Award winning song and dance man who was best known for this movie and for being the face of the original Law and Order series playing the iconic Detective Lenny Briscoe. Also, I noticed you wondering about Swayze's age. I think Johnny is supposed to be maybe in his mid 20s, but Swayze would have been 35 when this movie was released. I know this because when he died I was shocked to realize he was the same age as my parents and then somewhat disturbed that my barely tween friends and I were pausing our VHS tapes to scope his butt profile when he was the same age as my dad. lol.
